About Blackwater Mine:
Situated 73 kilometres south-east of Emerald, Blackwater is the second-largest open-cut metallurgical coal mine in the Bowen Basin. This long-life operation began in 1967 and has grown to become one of the longest coal mines in the Southern Hemisphere, with a strike length of 80 kilometres. Blackwater extracts high quality metallurgical and thermal coal for the export market using truck and shovel, as well as loader and dragline.
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Superintendent – Commercial to join our new Blackwater team.
Based at site and reporting to the Manager – Commercial, this role will manage the financial and accounting functions of the mine site including facilitating the effective execution of budgetary, forecasting and financial analysis requirements in addition to the provision of timely and accurate information to site stakeholders, and corporate finance teams.
What You’ll Do
- Liaise with Mine Planning and Logistics personnel to capture budget/forecast driver information.
- Work with Mine and Functional Managers to develop detailed cost budgets/forecasts.
- Analyse monthly physical and financial performance against budget/forecast.
Conduct analysis of improvement/value creation opportunities – analyse current operations and use valuation methodologies to evaluate them. - Lead contract performance analysis and assist the Commercial Manager with negotiations.
What You’ll Bring
- Tertiary qualifications in Finance, Commerce or Accounting
- Professional membership of either CPA or CA
- 7-8 years’ experience, with 3-4 years in an operational role
- Experience in a capital-intensive industry (preferably mining, manufacturing or heavy industry)
- Significant exposure to accounting and reporting, budgeting and reforecasting
- Experience in the use of Pulse and IBM Planning Analytics Software highly regarded
