The opportunity
Co-Curious is seeking Board members for various roles as it enters the next stage of its strategic growth. This is an exciting and rewarding opportunity to help lead a small Australian screen company which plays a vital industry role in supporting early career screenwriters from under-represented backgrounds to develop their skills and make content.
The new members will be joining Co-Curious at a critical period in its growth as it transitions from 6 years as a wholly owned subsidiary of CuriousWorks Inc to an independent entity with its own board of directors.
About Co-Curious
Co-Curious develops and delivers culturally significant content which reflects contemporary Australia. Established in 2018, Co-Curious is the producer of feature film anthology, Here Out West, which was a CinesfestOz Film Prize Finalist and opened Sydney Film Festival in 2021. Here Out West won the 2021 SDIN Award, was the recipient of the Western Sydney Leadership Dialogue’s Chairman’s Prize, was nominated in the best costume and best film categories at the 2022 AACTA Awards and nominated in the best film category for the Film Critics Circle Awards. The film led Co-Curious to a model for inclusive development of projects by writers of Culturally and Linguistically Diverse and other under-represented backgrounds. Co-Curious is a registered charity and its programs are built around strategic industry partnerships. Those programs are holistically designed to support writers from diverse backgrounds to develop and deliver content that speaks to their lived experience, while progressing their careers as working writers.
Who we’re looking for
The projects on the Co-Curious slate represent the company’s response to the growing appetite for diverse stories and the urgent need to give talented early-career screenwriters a pathway into industry and a proper platform to have their stories heard.
With a focus on skills development and capacity-building as well as developing content, Co-Curious is committed to long term change. In that context we are looking for Board Members with screen sector experience (financing, production, distribution, audience building, marketing) and / or experience in the not-for-profit sector.
Relationships with the philanthropic sector are key to the company’s business model so Board Members with solid networks in this space will be gratefully welcomed.
Much of the company’s work takes place in Western Sydney in partnership with Powerhouse Parramatta so new Board Members with a connection to the region will bring added depth to the board and ensure the company is representing the community it serves. Experience and knowledge in business development, governance, financial management and accounting and marketing and communications will also be viewed favorably.
