The Fremantle Octopus Group is a fully integrated octopus fishing, processing, distribution, and export business with a strong and growing fleet of both company owned and contracted fishing vessels. 

We are seeking deckhands who want to be a part of one of the most vibrant and growing commercial fisheries in Western Australia.

About the role: 

You will be required to support the day to day running of a commercial fishing vessel and be required to follow all directions provided by the Master. 

Responsibilities include:

  • Operate, clean, and maintain fishing gear.
  • Basic maintenance of vessel.
  • Cleaning of all work areas.
  • Process and store catch.
  • Stacking pots.
  • Rope handling.
  • Report any incidents or near misses.
  • Manual handling.

About you: You will:

  • Be able to work within a team.
  • Be able to work at sea.
  • Be strong and physically fit.
  • Be available to work various shifts between Monday – Sunday, 5am – 5pm.
  • Have a current driver’s license.
  • Be willing to undertake a pre-employment medical and drug test.

Remuneration:

You will be paid under the NES award at the full day rates listed below which includes casual loading at a rate of 25%.  This includes all additional work on fishing equipment and vessel maintenance, as required.

  • Level 1 - $307.00 per day
  • Level 2 - $350.00 per day

Estimated annual earnings of approx. $80,000 - $100,000 based on approx. 240 days worked per year. Increased earnings are paid by way of bonuses when catch exceeds minimum catch levels. 

All rates are exclusive of superannuation.

  • Regular weekly work on an on-going year-round basis.
  • Catch bonus plan, based on eligibility, which is paid within 30 days of the eligibility period ending.
  • Working equipment provided.
