Established in 1994, AusSpan is a Tasmanian based company specialising in Asset Management including Level 2 Condition Inspections & comprehensive Reports detailed in an Asset Management database on a diverse range of structures including bridges, culverts, footbridges, viewing platforms & marine structures. Having recently separated from our parent company, we are looking to expand our team to better serve our clients.
Our client base is comprised of State and Local Government including Councils, Department of State Growth Tasmania, Sustainable Timber Tasmania (formerly Forestry Tasmania), Hydro Tasmania, VicRoads, Private Companies, Landowners, and others. We have also undertaken and completed projects on the mainland. Using our unique Bridge Management System, we currently assist our clients with the management of approximately 4,800 bridge structures. This aggregates to a multi-million-dollar asset.

The Role
We are looking to employ 2 Bridge Inspectors, with 1 based in the North-West of Tasmania and one in the South of the state.
Reporting to our Senior Bridge Inspector, the role of the Bridge inspector is to perform on-site Visual/Level 2 Inspections to identify asset conditions and recommend corrective and preventative works on a variety of different asset types and construction materials across Tasmania. This role is primarily field based, with an estimated 95% of work occurring on-site. Some of the structures are located within out of service areas, so personal safety trackers and GPS communication devices are provided. As part of your on-the-job inspection and safety training, you will be working closely with our Senior Bridge Inspector in hands-on capacity at inspection sites. Part of your training will involve undertaking the ARRB Level 2 Bridge Inspection Accreditation program. We will assist you in passing this accreditation.
Key Responsibilities
- Undertaking Visual Inspection/Level 2 Inspection of structures
- Understanding and complying to the company’s safety policies
- Ability to think ahead and plan inspection routes.
- Capacity to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Willingness to learn how to use our Bridge Management System, including its technology-based data capture tools for inspections, and timber coring inspection procedures.
- Work closely with our office staff and Senior Bridge Inspector to assure asset conditions and defects are correctly catalogued. This includes working alongside specialist engineers for Level 3 inspections.
- Flexibility in adjusting to changing work priorities based on client needs.
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum 4 years’ experience in construction
- Current Manual Driver’s License
Desirable Qualifications (optional based on experience)
- Level 3 Certificate in any Construction trade
