As Building Inspector you will represent the Office of Municipal Building Surveyor (MBS) and The City of Stonnington in the inspection of buildings and building works where a permit has been granted.
You will also:
- Promote an understanding of relevant legislative requirements to practitioners and members of the public and provide professional recommendations
- Carry out proactive inspections of building risks and dangers and non-compliance in accordance with Council work plans and policies by utilising engineering principles, precedent, and experience.
- Respond to complaints and concerns by members of the public, governance and business units
- Proven experience in exercising building control functions, including enforcement processes
- Administer the follow up of building permits and approvals that are due to lapse or have lapsed, maintaining comprehensive and accurate records of inspections.
This is a permanent full time position with an annual salary range of $105,785 - $117,494 per annum + 11 % superannuation. You are based within our bright, modern and sustainable 311 Glenferrie Road office on the corner of High Street and Glenferrie Road in Malvern where boutique stores, cafes and health clubs are in abundance. From the office you can easily walk to Malvern Gardens, High Street Armadale or Glenferrie Road. Malvern and Armadale Train Station are a short walk away and tram stops are out the front of the building. As a permanent employee you also get access to our wellbeing program, employee assistance counselling program and receive 17.5% additional pay when on annual leave.
To succeed in this position you will need:
- Registration as a building practitioner in the category of Building Inspector-Unlimited (Limited registration will be considered based on experience) and relevant tertiary qualification, along with a current driver’s licence
- Practiced knowledge of the Building Act, Building Regulations including associated Codes of Practice, Australian Standards, Local Laws, Government and Council Policies
- Great people skills to provide the highest level of service to our community
