Bus Driver

The Rockhampton Grammar School seeks to appoint an experienced Bus Driver to join our Transport Department on a casual basis to commence at the beginning of Term 2, 2024.

To be successful in this role you must:

• be able to work late nights, weekends, and school holidays where required.
• hold a minimum MR Driver’s licence, this is an essential requirement.
• have, or be eligible for, Driver Authorisation card, Working with children check (Blue Card) and be able to provide a satisfactory Police Certificate (criminal history check).

The Rockhampton Grammar School was founded in 1881 and is an independent co-educational day and boarding school, educating and caring for students from Prep to Year 12, as well as the Early Learning Years. The School is the largest independent boarding school in Queensland and the second largest co-educational boarding school in Australia. It is a leading school in regional Queensland and one of the foremost schools in regional Australia. The Rockhampton Grammar School has achieved great success in the academic, cultural, sporting and vocational fields over the past 143 years.

This role entails working in a fast-paced environment, often under high pressure. Duties include:

• Provide safe and timely transport services for the school community;
• Perform daily safety and maintenance checks before first run off the day;
• Perform minor maintenance duties, replenishing oils and coolants; 
• Clean the bus as scheduled and/or required;
• Ensure the bus is safely and securely stored;
• Ensure the school buses are in good operating condition at all times;
• Report to Transport Coordinator of any requirements for maintenance or repairs;
• Report all Traffic Infringements to Transport Coordinator as soon as practicable;
• Report delays, accidents, or other traffic and transportation situations to Transport Coordinator as soon as practicable;
• Pick up, drop off and collect students as per the daily schedule;
• Take attendance on the school bus;
• Ensure students are aware of the rules and responsibilities as passengers;
• Maintain order, discipline and security on the school bus;
• Make note of any behavioral or disciplinary problems;
• Obey all laws, regulations and rules of conduct;
• Work cohesively as a team member and as required, assist team members to ensure all work tasks are completed;
• Ensure a safe and hazard-free workplace environment by reporting any health and safety hazards. Comply with the School’s occupational health and safety policy at all times;
• Any other related duties as required by the Transport Coordinator.

• The position is a moderately strenuous job. The driver must sit for long periods and requires intense concentration, particularly in poor driving conditions.
• Due to the nature of the position, weekend work, late night and broken shift duties maybe required.

• Working with Children Check;

• Current Full Driver’s Licence for manual vehicle;
• Minimum MR Licence essential;
• Driver’s Authorisation.

• Ensure that your interactions with children and young people are positive and safe;
• Provide adequate care and supervision of children and young people in your charge;
• Act as a positive role model for children and young people;
• Report any suspicions, concerns, allegations or disclosures of alleged abuse to management;
• Maintain valid “working with children” documentation;
• Undergo periodic “national criminal history record” checks;
• Report to management any criminal charges or convictions you receive during the course of your employment that may indicate a possible risk to children and young people.

This includes reference checks, identity checks qualification check and professional registration checks.
