About the roleMy client are a reputable mid-sized retailer based in Sydney, Australia. They are committed to providing our customers with high-quality products and exceptional service. As part of our growth strategy, we are seeking a dynamic and experienced Grocery Category Buyer to join our team.
Duties- Supplier Management: Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with existing and potential suppliers. Negotiate favorable terms, pricing, and contracts to optimize margins and ensure product quality and availability.
- Range reviews: Identify and evaluate new products, trends, and market opportunities within the grocery category. Make informed decisions on product assortment, pricing, and promotions to drive sales and profitability.
- Inventory Management: Monitor inventory levels, demand forecasts, and sales performance to optimize inventory turnover and minimize stockouts and overstock situations.
- Pricing and Margin Optimization: Analyze pricing strategies and market trends to set competitive prices while maximizing margins and profitability.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Collaborate with internal teams, including marketing, operations, and ecom, to develop effective promotional campaigns, planograms, and merchandising strategies.
- Data Analysis and Reporting: Utilize sales data, market research, and financial analysis to track category performance, identify opportunities for improvement, and provide regular reports to senior management.
- Continuous Improvement: Stay informed about industry trends, competitor activities, and best practices in grocery retailing. Continuously seek ways to enhance processes, reduce costs, and drive innovation within the category.
Skills & Experience
- Bachelor's degree
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in Buying or Category Management.
- Proven track record of successfully managing supplier relationships, negotiating contracts, and achieving cost savings and margin improvements.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data, generate insights, and make data-driven decisions.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy and organization.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and other relevant software applications.
