About Potash

The Jansen project in Saskatchewan, Canada is set to become one of the largest potash mines in the world and is located approximately 140 kilometers east of Saskatoon.  BHP’s CAD$14 billion (US$10.5 billion) investment in the Jansen project will deliver a potash mine in Saskatchewan designed to maximize sustainability. As the largest investment in Saskatchewan’s history, Jansen is expected to generate approximately 5,500 workforce opportunities during construction and 900 long-term roles. 

 

Jansen's construction will take place over several years with first production planned for late 2026. Once fully ramped up, Jansen is expected to have an initial production capacity of approximately 8.5 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa), with the potential to produce 16 to 17 Mtpa in future stages. Work Location

Downtown, Saskatoon office. 40 hours per week. Hybrid working (flexible, shared workstations and a combination of office and work from home) is standard for BHP.

About the Role

  • Analyzes purchase requisitions to ensure clarity and completeness in description of materials and equipment, quantity and quality requirements, proper authorization of funding, delivery requirements, mode of transportation, and proper support documentation.
  • Establishes and maintains list of qualified suppliers, by commodity, approved by the project and/or department.
  • Prepares and issues Request for Quotation (RFQ) to qualified bidders.
  • Analyzes bid quotations for responsiveness to (RFQ), evaluating factors such as commercial terms and conditions, price, delivery, financial status, technical capability, quality control, and geographical location of shipping point.
  • Negotiates best price, delivery, terms of payment and purchase order terms & conditions, tax exemptions, price escalation, and other factors impacting costs.
  • Helps coordinate technical review of paperwork with appropriate departments. Issues or assists in issuing purchase orders after securing required approvals.
  • Designs and establishes purchasing procedures at the beginning of a new project, i.e., adapt Company procedures to specific customer requirements.
  • Investigates domestic and international market conditions, makes comparative analyses of price and delivery conditions, availability and quality of material and new sources of supply.
  • Closes out purchase orders following confirmation of the successful completion of all contractual and procedural requirements.
  • Establishes and maintains auditable purchase order files, also ensures that classified or sealed bid documents are properly stored.
  • Proactively monitor supplier progress of documents, equipment and materials.

About the Role Cont.

  • Arranges and chair kick-off / progress review meetings.  Maintain log and follow up with outstanding actions, both with supplier and internal stakeholders.
  • Expedites and verify production schedules and progress reports.
  • Communicates equipment/material delays and schedule conflicts with project team.
  • Follow-up with the supplier to determine schedule recovery/mitigation plans, initiate corrective actions to ensure delivery performance, and/or monitor activities during product manufacturing/shipment.
  • Ensures all relevant parties are informed and included in material/documentation progress, delays and recovery plans from suppliers.
  • Validates supplier invoices against payment milestones in purchase order.
  • Completes expediting requirements for purchase order closeout.

About You

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, supply chain management or equivalent degree or work experience
  • 5-7 years related experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access)
  • Detail-oriented, highly motivated, and effective time management skills
  • Strong leadership, management, communication, and coaching skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment is a must
