About the Role

Council’s Design & Placemaking Branch are seeking a Cadet Engineering Surveyor to assist in the completion of detailed engineering/topographic surveys and construction set outs. The successful candidate will assist in preparing quality plans via Computer-aided programs such as Autocad and 12D, and process surveys using the 12D model under supervision. You will set up, check, calibrate and operate survey instruments including total stations, levels and GPS data recorders, ensuring all field equipment is maintained in an operational standard. 

This is a fantastic opportunity to learn from a talented team of professionals, and for you to contribute to bringing projects to life in your own community.  This role is a developmental one where you will grow your skill-base and acquire a more specialised understanding of Engineering Surveying. 

As a requirement of the role, you will regularly:

  • Perform calculations such as reduction of levels 
  • Contribute to locating and calibrating flood gauges
  • Assist in surveying drainage-deficient areas to facilitate compliance with development approval conditions
  • Survey and calculate volumes of mulch, gravel and other stockpiles under supervision.

About you

As an aspiring Surveyor, you have successfully enrolled in an Associate Degree of Spatial Science (Surveying) – USQ (or approved equivalent) OR have the Intention to enrol and possess Civil/Surveying field experience.  You must be enrolled to accept the position. 

You possess a developing knowledge of Autocad with outstanding ability to use initiative to problem-solve routine matters and follow tasks through to completion. Thorough analytical and numeracy skills are essential to your success. 

You are a competent verbal and written communicator, possessing basic computer skills in typing, data entry and preparing simple Microsoft Office Suite documentation. Your interest and ability to learn other computer applications is pivotal to this position. 

Candidates with engineering surveying, roadwork and drainage construction experience as well as those with exposure to the 12d Model, will be highly regarded for this vacancy. Local Government experience and possession of a ‘C’ class driver’s licence is desirable. 

Appointment to this position is subject to completion of a pre-employment medical assessment.
