About the role

The Café at Harry’s Place was purpose built by Carpentaria to offer meaningful training and employment opportunities for people with a disability, with a focus on increasing skills, confidence, and independence. We want to support people with a disability to learn, develop, and enhance their skills in hospitality to enable transition into open employment.

The Café Workplace Trainer is responsible for providing support and learning opportunities to employees in the Carpentaria Training and Employment Program during their daily tasks, ensuring they feel confident and capable in their roles. You will be supporting our participants to achieve their personal and employment goals while improving their hospitality skills and knowledge.  In this role, you will see our participants build their independence and confidence - nothing is more rewarding than that! 

This role is initially a part-time position, working approximately 3-days per week, weekday shifts between the hours of 07.00am - 2.30pm.

Responsibilities also include:

  • Developing and implementing individualised training plans based on the specific needs and abilities of each trainee
  • Liaising and communicating with Registered Training Providers to ensure workplace training aligns with formal training requirements
  • Conducting ongoing assessments to measure the progress of each employee
  • Providing guidance on developing soft skills essential for the workplace, including communication, teamwork, and time management
  • Actively assisting Café team members across all areas of Café operations, including food and drink preparation, customer service, inventory, deliveries, and Café cleaning duties

About you

We are looking for someone with hospitality and kitchen experience, and a passion for good food and coffee! You will have experience in training and mentoring, with high-level interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of people. You will have a positive can-do attitude and be able to work well under pressure, with a calm and patient approach.

In addition, you will be able to demonstrate:

  • Certificate II or above in Hospitality / Kitchen Operations / Commercial Cookery
  • Certificate in Food Safety/Food Handling
  • Experience as a Barista
  • Ability to exercise judgement, initiative and problem-solving skills 
  • Certificate IV Training and Assessment and experience in the disability sector highly regarded

You will also need to hold (or have the ability to obtain) a current Ochre Card, Criminal History Check, NDIS Worker Screening Clearance, evidence of Australian work rights, First Aid & CPR Certificate and an NT Driver Licence.
