About the role: 

Multicultural Futures are currently seeking a part time CaLD Counsellor for the delivery of culturally appropriate, strengths-based, person-centred counselling and support to people from Culturally and Linguistically diverse backgrounds. This service is provided to people in the Southern metropolitan corridor, with special focus on clients residing in the Cockburn area. The position will be based in our main office in Bentley (Office locations subject to change at the discretion of MCF).

Reporting to the Program Manager Mental Health the role will include the following duties: 

  • Initial assessment of clients’ needs, inclusive of pre and post self-reporting assessment tool.
  • Action planning for recovery, including supported referrals. 
  • Provide individualised and flexible support for individuals and families as they navigate the health care system.
  • Provide early intervention and counselling support services.
  • Advocate for clients’ rights to access timely culturally responsive services and community resources and assist clients in understanding relevant information and resources. 
  • Support clients in building effective relationships with GPs and accessing regular GP care.
  • Provide support, guidance, and training to other providers to strengthen cultural responsiveness.
  • Establish and strengthen referral pathways and partnerships with agencies and support networks.
  • Enter client data in relevant database.
  • Provide regular performance reports against requirements.
  • Collect statistics and prepare internal reports as required.
  • Ensure skills and competencies are maintained to deliver high quality support.

What you will need:

  • Tertiary qualification in Social Work, Psychology, Counselling or equivalent
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience working in a similar role in mental health 
  • Understanding on how to navigate mental health service systems
  • Demonstrated experience working with people from a refugee or migrant background who have mental health challenges
  • Evidence of well-developed communication skills -  both verbal and written
  • Strong time management skills
  • Satisfactory Police Clearance (less than 6 months old)
  • Current Working With Children Check
