Overview
The Living Room is a new low barrier peer-led mental health service, which aims to promote wellbeing and mental health through early discussion and intervention, whilst offering peer-based conversation and communication of ECU supports and services.
The Living Room aims to provide a safe and supportive environment for students to share their experiences with a student peer adviser. The space is used as a wellbeing centre, for health promotion, early identification, support and/ or referral for students who may be experiencing early mental health impacts, challenges, or wellbeing concerns.
The Living Room at ECU will focus on collaborating across all university student service points for the implementation of a seamless student experience and excellent student service standards.
The role
The Wellbeing Advisor is vital within the context of The Living Room team, ensuring all mental health support, health promotion and wellbeing activities are in keeping with best practice, university strategies and processes for the provision of mental health support to students. The Wellbeing Advisor will, under general direction, provide guidance and support to the Peer Support Advisors, and work closely with the Coordinator to facilitate the operationalisation and development of the service. The role will work other areas within the University as appropriate.
The Wellbeing Advisor will be required to complete comprehensive mental health assessments, case notes and referral records to meet reporting and data collection requirements when required.
Qualifications
Tertiary qualification in a relevant health discipline: Registered Nurse; Occupational Therapist; Psychologist, Social Worker; Counsellor.
Current registration with an associated professional organisation such as the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA); The Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW); Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA) or the Australian Counselling Association (ACA).
Essential criteria
- Proven experience in the application of evidence-based practice within the mental health field in a therapeutic, leadership and/or educative role.
- Substantial relevant knowledge, skills and experience related to the provision of mental health support and assessment of risk and referral for appropriate interventions.
- Comprehensive knowledge and experience in the development, facilitation and implementation of health promotion, wellbeing and/or mental health education programs.
- Excellent communication and people skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with a diverse range of people and internal and external stakeholders.
- Sound teaching skills/educative approaches for the development and delivery of health promotion activities and workshops.
- Experience with data collection approaches, analysis, and evaluation of research and/or service.

Benefits & culture
This fixed-term, part-time position (0.8 FTE) attracts a remuneration of $88,973 to $95,993 per annum plus 17% superannuation.
