The Emergency Department Medical Scribe (EDMS) contributes to the efficient operation of patient services within the Emergency Departments of the RAH and TQEH. Under the direction and supervision of the Emergency Medicine Consultant, various practice models may be used to enact this role, including but not limited to:
- Accompanying the Emergency Medicine Consultant or their delegate whilst they assess a patient and then documenting assessment findings into Sunrise.
- Performing venepuncture and establishing peripheral venous access. Subsequently collecting blood samples and sending them for analysis after blood investigation requests have been ordered by the Emergency Medicine Consultant or their delegate.
- Undertaking arterial blood gas collection as required.
- Checking the availability of pathology and radiology results, and reporting these to the Emergency Medical Consultant.
- Assisting in preparing discharge letters.
- Other ad hoc duties that might be requested by the Emergency Medicine Consultant and that are within the scope of the role.
Experience and recent training in using SA Health's Electronic Medical Record (Sunrise EMR) will be highly regarded.
