Camden Council is seeking an experienced Senior Media & Communications Advisor to join our innovative and progressive Communications Team.
Working for the fastest growing Council in Australia, the Senior Media & Communications Media Advisor will be responsible for identifying and generating proactive media and promotional opportunities, managing Council's relationship with the media, delivering proactive and reactive media content and providing strategic media advice and direction to the origination.

Essential:
- Relevant qualifications and/or extensive experience in media and communications.
- Experience in writing for government, executive or similar media and communications.
- Highly developed written, verbal and analytical skills, including ability to write engaging media releases, speeches and media briefing notes that are relevant, timely, accurate and have a high impact.
- Extensive experience in dealing with the media and preparing responses on behalf of people on various levels in the organisation.
- Ability to research and analyse issues promptly and provide appropriate and innovative communications advice and solutions.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with people from all levels of community, business and government.
- Ability to produce work of a high quality within established timeframes, under immense pressure to deliver actions and projects and with minimal supervision.
- Proven understanding of government processes, with an established network of media contacts.
- Willingness to show flexibility in work hours to meet urgent needs of the organisation and the media, including after hours, weekends and public holidays when required.
- Ability to operate in a team environment both as a leader and participant.
- Demonstrated ability to apply EEO, WHS and ethical practice principles and to act with probity at all times.
Desirable:
- Knowledge of government protocol, policies and procedures.
- Understanding of the Local Government Act.
- Experience with photography and videography including editing software - preferably Adobe products.
- Ability to comfortably attend public functions, launches and announcements and represent Council to a high standard.
To meet Council's WHS requirements and in accordance with Council's Covid-19 Safety Plans, this position has been identified via risk assessment to be required to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 or provide evidence of an approved medical contraindication. If a medical contraindication certificate is provided, it will be assessed against a risk assessment and the decision of whether Council accepts the medical contraindication certificate, will be based on operational needs.
