With a history of over 160 years in the Australian and New Zealand sugar industries, Wilmar Sugar Australia operations span the value chain from sugar cane growing, sugar manufacturing, refining, exporting, and marketing, to the production of renewable electricity, ethanol and sustainable agricultural products.
Wilmar manufactures over half of Australia's raw sugar, and each year exports enough electricity to power more than 68,000 Australian homes for 12 months. As well as supplying ethanol (ethyl alcohol) to the growing fuel market in Australia, Wilmar also supplies a significant market share to various industries including the pharmaceutical, printing, cleaning, winery, aerosol, animal health and food and beverage industries.
About the Role
Applications are invited from suitably qualified personnel for the position of Cane Rail Labourer based at the Proserpine Mill, located near Airlie Beach in the Whitsundays QLD. As a Cane Rail Labourer, you will assist with track, bridge, civil construction and maintenance, including earthworks, laying tracks and the use of maintenance equipment.
This is a Fixed Term position up to June 2024 in our Civil team. This role may entail working beyond standard hours, including weekends, as necessary, offering an opportunity to increase earnings.
Primary responsibilities:
- Changing sleepers under tramline and rail fasteners
- Pull line straight with crowbars
- Straighten bent line with a crow and form curves from straight line with a crow
- Manual cleaning of turnouts to ensure their safe operation
- Civil construction of track and track infrastructure
Our ideal candidate will have:
- Manual 'C' class driver's licence
- A strong commitment to safety with involvement in safety/improvement teams
