Job description

We are recruiting for enthusiastic and reliable support workers to join our team.

At AmAble we aim to make a difference in the lives of people with disability and/or neurodiversity. We aim to decrease social exclusion, mental health impact and other disadvantage for our participants and their families and promote understanding and inclusion in the community for people with disability, neurodiversity and/or other mental health issues, their support networks and people experiencing disadvantage.

AmAble provides neuro-affirming and inclusive social programs and person-centred support services that are innovative, address social issues and are of a high quality, responding directly to the needs of its participants, families, and carers.

Our Support Workers:

  • Represent AmAble in a professional manner in accordance with our code of conduct and other relevant policies.
  • Liaise with other staff including coordinators and other support and program staff
  • Liaise with our participants, and families.
  • Develop and maintain a productive professional working relationship with staff, participants, and families while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.

Duties

  • Participate in team meetings and training as required
  • Provide meaningful and engaged support to our participants
  • Maintain up to date availability in our online shift system
  • Complete case notes and mileage records in a timely fashion in line with our policies and procedures
  • Report incidents immediately using appropriate procedures
  • Participate in term programs, school holiday and annual camp activities
  • Participate in volunteer organisational fundraisers from time to time
  • Ensure that spaces used are left neat and tidy for the next user or group
  • Maintain professional development and show a willingness to learn and grow in the role
  • Assist participants to provide feedback and suggestions for activities and programs and help to maintain a safe and inclusive space for everyone.
  • Be a positive role model and lead by example

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Good numeracy, written and communication skills
  • Ability to follow organisational policies, procedures, and task instructions
  • Understanding of workplace guidelines and the statutory requirements governing the workplace
  • Ability and commitment to deliver services to people with a disability in line with the NDIS Code of Conduct and National Standards for Disability Services
  • Understanding of positive behaviour support practices
  • Reliability, punctuality, and flexibility to work on a range of tasks with or without direct supervision or within a team environment
  • A positive can-do attitude
  • Comfortable communicating with a range of diverse participants and staff
  • Good administrative/reporting skills
  • Good time management skills
  • Basic computer literacy skills
  • Ability to think on your feet and problem solve

Essential Experience and Qualifications

  • An appropriate qualification or current studies is desirable however lived experience is also valued
  • Experience working with people with a range of disabilities including autism
  • Experience working with diverse people and age groups
  • Passion for helping people and making a difference

Security Checks and Other Requirements

  • A current Working with Children Check (employee)
  • NDIS Worker Screening Clearance
  • Proof of Residency/Right to work in Australia (birth certificate/passport or valid VISA)
  • Completion of the Quality, Safety and You NDIS Worker Orientation Module prior to commencing
  • Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation certificate
  • Current Level 2 First Aid certificate
  • Current Australian Drivers Licence
  • Use of own roadworthy vehicle covered by full comprehensive insurance & valid registration
  • Use of own smart phone or tablet device for receiving shifts and recording case notes and incidents
  • Availability for various shifts including after hours and weekends
