Carer Support Facilitator

• Based in Robina
• Part time (4 days per week)

Your new role – In this role, in Crossing Paths Carer Support Program, as a Carer Support Facilitator, you will connect with carers, caregivers and closest supporters of people experiencing a suicidal crisis in the Gold Coast region and to offer support, connection, and access to resources.

Using personal experience, you will work safely and appropriately, to walk alongside a carer and supporters, to provide understanding, insight, and practical guidance, which comes through having cared for someone experiencing a suicidal crisis.

This role promotes the importance maintaining their own wellbeing throughout a crisis. This happens within a professional relationship which uses lived expertise and learned skills to navigate the needs identified by the carer or caregiver.

It is required that the successful candidate has lived experience as a carer of person with suicidality, some knowledge of service systems from a carer perspective and motivation to apply this experience in a recovery-oriented carer centric model.

What you will bring to the role  

• Passionate about making a positive change in the lives of caring for people managing suicidality.
• Effectively model hope and recovery, citizenship, and connectedness.
• Effectively contribute to the decreasing stigma and discrimination around having a lived experience of a mental health issue.
• Provide assertive and practical support to access services related to individual needs. Outreach and in home/ community-based support.
• Ability to connect and offer genuine understanding through shared experiences creating a sense of understanding and destigmatisation.
• Minimum Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work or Intentional Peer Support; or Suicide Prevention Peer Work.
• Demonstrated effective PC skills including MS Office and related applications packages (including reporting).
