Expressions of Interest – Casual Academics in Finance and Banking

The Finance Department at the UTS Business School is calling for expressions of interest from suitably qualified applicants for inclusion in an eligibility list for casual academic positions.

As a  Casual Lecturer in Finance and Banking at the UTS Business School, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality education and fostering student success. This position offers an exciting opportunity to share your expertise and passion for Finance and Banking with students, helping them develop the knowledge and skills necessary for success in the industry.

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver engaging lectures and tutorials on various topics within one or more of the following fields
    • Banking, including foundational concepts, types of risks in banking and how to manage them, and the use of technology in banking;
    • Sustainability incorporating environmental, social and governance concepts and their financial applications;
    • Quantitative Portfolio Management with an emphasis on the design and implementation of algorithmic trading models in Python;
    • Derivatives and Risk Management. This entails an understanding of derivative securities evaluation and how derivative securities can be used for trading and risk
      management applications. 
  • Implement effective teaching strategies and materials to enhance student learning and understanding.
  • Facilitate discussions, group activities, and practical exercises to encourage active participation and critical thinking among students.
  • Provide timely and constructive feedback on assignments, assessments, and student progress to support their academic development.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and academic staff to foster curriculum development and ways to improve the subject.
  • Stay current with industry trends and practices in banking to ensure the delivery of relevant and up-to-date content to students.

Skills and experience: 

  • Strong knowledge and expertise in at least one Finance topic area: banking principles, practices, and concepts and/or ESG and Sustainable Finance and/or Quantitative Portfolio Management and required coding skills (Python).
  • Work experience in the finance professions, demonstrating a sustained commitment to the field. 
  • Demonstrated currency of knowledge in banking principles, practices, and concepts through active participation in relevant professional development activities, networks, or communities of practice, as well as engagement in ongoing personal development through industry-relevant conferences, and involvement in projects with industry partners. 
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, evidenced by the ability to effectively engage and motivate students, fostering active participation and collaboration in the learning process. 
  • Previous teaching or tutoring experience in banking or finance-related subjects is advantageous, though not mandatory, with a focus on facilitating meaningful learning experiences. 
  • Proven ability to articulate complex concepts and information clearly and concisely, ensuring accessibility and understanding for all students. 
  • Dedication to cultivating a supportive and inclusive learning environment, promoting diversity, equity, and respect among students and colleagues alike.

Qualifications 

  • PhD in Banking, Finance, Economics or related field, or
  • Master Degree and relevant work experience.
