Casual Art Prize Invigilators

CASUAL ROLES 
Hourly rate from: $30.62 to 38.65 ph + casual loading/penalties + 11% super

North Sydney Council administers the North Sydney local government area on Sydney’s picturesque lower North Shore. Our 400 employees look after 77,000 residents spread across 10 square kilometres of land on the foreshores of Sydney Harbour providing spectacular harbour views, beautiful parklands, and a bustling CBD. Our aim is to ensure North Sydney remains a welcoming, well-designed, safe and beautiful environment for residents, workers and visitors.

We currently have a number of casual positions available to assist our creative Arts & Culture team with events.

These roles will assist in providing a welcoming environment for visitors to the North Sydney Art Prize (11 May- 2 June) and are required to be available for 5 hour shifts during the Art Prize (Wednesday – Sunday), on average 5-25 hours per week. 

Invigilation of the Art Prize includes: ensuring safety of visitors and artwork, engaging with visitors and speaking about artworks, assisting with wayfinding and exhibition maps, and assisting with exhibition opening and closing duties. 

You will also be responsible for the following: 

  • Providing a welcoming environment for our visitors, ensuring they get the most from their visit. Being the first point of contact for visitors and answering any queries
  • Speak with confidence about the artworks, the site (training provided) and answer general queries including wayfinding on site.
  • Be visible and engage with all visitors and staff, to ensure gallery guidelines and protocols are followed.
  • Ensuring the safety and security of artworks on display. Making sure visitors remain a safe distance from any vulnerable works and reporting any issues to the Arts & Culture team.
  • Ensuring the safety of visitors and staff in the galleries. Making sure the spaces are safe for the public and reporting any issues to the Arts & Culture team for action.
  • Maintain a tidy and well-presented exhibition space, replenishing guides and catalogues
  • Keep records of visitor attendance.
  • Assist with opening and closing up procedures which may include turning on/off video and electronic equipment, and ensure all visitors leave the gallery promptly at closing time.
  • Any other duties as required
Essential Criteria 
  • Excellent inter-personal skills balanced with professionalism and diplomacy
  • Experience providing high standards of customer service in a public facing or front of house role.
  • Confidence and ability to take charge of the public in an emergency
  • The ability to move freely around an exhibition, stand for long periods of time and work alone
  • A calm, enthusiastic and friendly attitude and willingness to help
  • Available during the exhibition period (11 May- 2 June 2024) and for a training session in the week prior.
Desirable
  • An interest in contemporary art and culture
