About the Role
We are seeking a candidate to work with our cataloguing and end-processing team as a Cataloguing Assistant. The ideal candidate must hold a passion for cataloguing, libraries and books and be strongly customer-focused while also highly committed to technical accuracy.
This role is being offered as an ongoing part-time position, 3-4 days per week.
You will be required to import MARC cataloguing records from Bolinda’s own cataloguing database; modify MARC records to meet the specifications provided by each of our customers; upload modified records to the relevant catalogue system; and provide our end-processing team with Dewey numbers and prefixes for spine labels. You will need to maintain a very high level of accuracy in entering data and a strict adherence to deadlines to ensure a prompt workflow of titles through the cataloguing department. Additionally you will liaise daily with the cataloguing and end processing teams to resolve any competing priorities and report on your key commitments at our weekly team meetings.
Our ideal applicant will hold either a Diploma of Library and Information Services (or equivalent) and/or have worked in a library service for 4+ years.
Additionally, the successful applicant will be able to demonstrate the following:
- Proficiency in uploading MARC records to library management systems (highly regarded);
- Understanding of basic cataloguing principles and how to apply them (highly regarded);
- Experience in using MARCEdit to edit and update MARC records (highly regarded);
- Experience with working within Spydus and/or Workflows systems (highly regarded);
- Ability to adapt to new software and changing technological requirements of cataloguing (highly regarded).
- Experience in covering books, programming RFID tags, creating spine labels, applying a variety of library labels (highly regarded);
- Confidence in using Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook to communicate, access and update specifications and to manage deadlines (highly regarded);
- Close attention to accuracy when entering data (essential);
- Good verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills (essential);
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills (essential);
- Equally able to work both independently and as part of a close team (essential);
- Ability to work quickly but accurately to agreed standards and deadlines (essential).
