Little Penguin ELC is a true family owned and operated centre. We are a purpose built Early Learning Centre and Kindergarten catering for 90 children each day across our 5 rooms. Our Kitchen is gorgeous.
About the role!
Our Kitchen and Centre Chef are the heart of our centre, adored by our team, children and families.
We are seeking an enthusiastic and passionate Centre Chef who enjoys sharing their love for cooking with the children, families and the team. We are offering a part time position for 15 hours minimum a week between the hours of 7:30 - 3:30 (can be flexible to the candidates needs) over a permanent 2 days a week Wednesday and Friday and ideally picking up a 3rd day when the numbers increase. There will often be the option to pick up more hours through holiday cover, personal leave or as a kitchen support working alongside our Chef’s through the other 3 days.
Your days will be busy preparing well presented, healthy and delicious meals and snacks across the day including breakfast, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea and late snack. You will have experience developing an inclusive menu that caters for individual requirements i.e. medical conditions, food preferences and cultural considerations and ensures children's health and wellbeing are being met whilst maintaining strong relationships with children, educators, families and the entire centre community. You will hold health and hygiene to a high regard ensuring that best practice food safety and hygiene standards are upheld within your kitchen.

Skills and experience
- Be a team player, our team are cohesive and support one another!
- Be reliable, positive and have excellent time management skills.
- Be experienced in planning and developing a seasonal, rotating menu for children including experience with allergies, intolerance and cultural requirements.
- Experience working with a Food Safety Plan and managing a kitchen including all paper work and council/legislative requirements.
- Hold a valid 'Employment' working with children check.
- Recognised culinary qualification, or recent experience in a Cook role.
