The UQ Poche Centre for Indigenous Health is an Indigenous-led health research centre focusing on Indigenous ways of knowing, being and doing. We undertake multidisciplinary research to enhance understanding of diverse health issues affecting Indigenous peoples, reduce health inequity and improve health outcomes.

About This Opportunity

Located in Toowong, the Centre Manager of the UQ Poche Centre for Indigenous Health, is responsible for supporting the Director and Executive team to manage the ongoing growth and development of the Centre. The Centre Manager is responsible for managing all operational functions of the Centre to ensure organisational and financial sustainability.

In this role, you will be central to the ongoing development of a strong, unified, and effective structure, culture and administration across a diverse range of activities. You will be an important link with community partners and other key internal and external stakeholders.

The Centre operates within a complex environment involving multiple external partners. This role requires an overarching knowledge of all aspects of the organisation and University systems with the ability to problem solve and provide flexible alternatives and options. We are looking for a candidate with a commitment and motivation for improving health equity and health services for Indigenous peoples, while also working to the nuances of the Centre environment.

As the Centre Manager, you will have a dynamic role overseeing the operations of the Centre while leading a team of professional staff responsible for Marketing and Communications, Community Engagement, Research, and Administrative Support.

Key responsibilities cover Operational Planning & Strategic Management, Financials, Resourcing & Staffing, and Engagement & Communication. This will include, but is not limited to:

  • Supporting the Director and Executive team in providing overall leadership and ongoing development and day-to-day operational management of the Centre.
  • Leading, contributing to, and actively promoting a high standard of professionalism, performance management, and overall effective and efficient organisational culture.
  • Directing, supervising and contributing to the effective and efficient management of the Centre's financial, human and physical resources.
  • In consultation with the Faculty Finance Manager, overseeing and liaising with appropriate Centre staff regarding the annual budget projections and quarterly forecast process.
  • Liaising internally and externally with key stakeholders and assisting the Director with engagement in consultation and negotiations with partners in the development of contracts.

This is a full-time (100%), fixed-term position for up to 12 months, replacing a staff member on parental leave.

At HEW level 8, the full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $108,975 - $122,176, plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be up to $127,500 - $142,946 annually. As these roles are covered by an Enterprise Agreement, you will also receive regular remuneration increases in line with the Enterprise Agreement.

About You

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.

  • Substantial relevant experience and management expertise in a University or similar environment. Whilst postgraduate qualifications or progress towards postgraduate qualifications are considered highly desirable, an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training is required.
  • Demonstrated commitment and motivation for improving health equity and health services for Indigenous peoples.
  • Extensive relevant work experience in a senior management role, preferably within a health or higher education environment, with a focus on financial and budget planning, human resource management and facilities management.
  • Demonstrated strategic and operational planning skills including effectively managing change.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability, in particular experience in leading, motivating and developing teams to achieve operational objectives and balance competing priorities.
  • High level communication and interpersonal skills including demonstrated ability to liaise and prepare reports and to build collaborative relationships with diverse groups.
  • Ability to work with senior colleagues to market and communicate the achievements of the organisation to a range of stakeholders including government, tertiary institutions, health services, clinicians and the broader community.
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders at board level and capacity to work with senior colleagues as a leader in a complex organisation.
