Retail Centre Manager- Canberra

The Centre: An independently owned, well established Fresh Food Shopping Centre with over 30 locally owned and operated stores. The mission is to maintain and expand on an exceptional retail destination, providing unique shopping experiences for our customers. The Centre trades four days a week with two days on site required (Thursday & Friday) providing a flexible work environment and work/life balance. 


The Position

Looking for the next step in your Business Management career? As Centre Manager you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the Centre's success by fostering a positive environment for tenants, customers and staff while being responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations and overall management of the Centre. You will be responsible for establishing and maintaining strong, positive relationships with tenants ensuring the trading environment is a well presented, safe and inviting destination for customers. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in retail or business  management, a self motivated work ethic and a passion for delivering exceptional customer experiences.

As the Centre Manager you will have the chance to be involved in all aspects of Shopping Centre Management. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing the day-to-day operations of the Centre. 
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with tenants, ensuring their needs are met and address any concerns promptly.
  • Ensure high standard of presentation at all times 
  • Strategy and Planning for the Centre (operations/ developments). Provide strategic direction and leadership. 
  • Oversee leasing activities, negotiate lease agreements and coordinate tenant fit-outs when necessary.
  • Manage the risk management program including compliance with all Australian/ACT regulations and safety standards.
  • Collaborate with the marketing team to develop and implement effective promotional strategies and events to attract customers and increase foot traffic.
  • Monitor financial performance, prepare budgets and take necessary actions to meet financial targets.
  • Identify and pursue opportunities to enhance the Shopping Centres offerings and amenities.
  • Address and resolve any customer complaints or issues in a professional and timely manner.
  • Manage and supervise service providers fostering a positive and productive work environment. Ensure contractors are working with and adhering to OHS requirements
  • Deliver monthly reporting
  • Help prepare and implement the Centre’s business plan and income and expenditure budget
  • Develop key decisions on maintenance and minor capital expenditure issues and oversee maintenance programs
  • Develop Casual Leasing Strategy
  • Responsibilities may vary and are not limited to the above

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Retail Management or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
  • Strong leadership abilities with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A customer-centric approach with a commitment to providing exceptional customer experiences.
  • Solid understanding of retail leasing, tenant relations, and property management.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in using relevant software and tools for management and reporting.

Preferred

  • Proven experience in Shopping Centre management or retail management with a track record of success.
  • Knowledge of local regulations and safety standards pertaining to Shopping Centres.
  • Financial acumen and experience in budgeting.
