Yarra City Council is seeking an experienced AQF level 3 Horticulturalist to join our Open Space Services team. An exciting opportunity is waiting for you to play a key role in protecting and enhancing the City of Yarra's green assets!
You be responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of all council owned garden beds as well as providing advice on Horticulture and maintenance to internal and external customers and stakeholders. You will also assist the Parks & Gardens - Leading Hand in developing and mentoring Horticulture apprentices.
We are looking for someone who has a proactive work ethic, is a team player, has great attention to detail, excellent time/record management skills and an ability to work flexibly in a fast-paced environment. In return you will have the opportunity to work on a very diverse range of interesting projects as they relate to Horticulture and Open Space.
To be considered for this role, you will need:
Horticultural Trade Certificate 3 or equivalent training and qualifications relevant to the position.
A current Victorian or National Light Rigid Driver’s License.
Workplace First Aid
Traffic controller/ worksite traffic management training.
Ability to undertake operations on main roads safely and in accordance with road traffic and signage laws.
Ability to use all required herbicides, insecticides, fungicides and other chemicals in accordance with safe handling procedures.
ACUP- Agricultural Chemical Users Permit.
Preferably, to be successful in this role you will have:
Previous experience working within local or state government departments.
Previous experience working with the public and external service providers.
