The CEO leads and drives the development of the MIA, a national member association and leading authority for migration professionals.
- National office based in Sydney
- Full-time with hybrid working
- Reports to the MIA Board
- Leads a four-person management team/company secretary/15 staff
About the organisation
The MIA is Australia’s leading association for migration professionals. The MIA is a member- focused organisation and represents its members through regular government and stakeholder liaison, advocacy, public speaking and media engagements.
The MIA supports its members through its core services: professional support, education, membership, communications, business development, marketing and research and policy development.
The MIA is a financially sound professional association that operates ethically and in strict accordance with good governance principles and its values of quality, transparency and integrity to directly support its members.
Position Overview
The CEO advocates for the membership and advances the profession, profile and policy directions to achieve the vision, goals and objectives of the MIA.
The CEO is responsible for the strategic, operational and financial performance of the MIA. The role involves building strong relationships and connections with internal and external stakeholders.
The CEO reports to and works closely with the Board to lead and oversee the daily operations of the MIA, promote growth of the membership and the continued delivery of a quality member experience. The CEO contributes to and operationalises the agreed strategic plan, robust governance and effective risk management.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategy for growth
- Working with the Board ensure there is a clear shared vision and strategic direction including expansion and growth plans (and ensure this is documented, communicated and implemented by agreed dates).
Governance, Policy and Management
- Support the Board to operate in compliance with statutory and ethical obligations, the Constitution and the rules.
- Develop and implement corporate policies.
Planning, Operations & Risk Management
- Ensure the agreed strategy is implemented effectively.
- Lead and oversee all operations and business activities via an organised system of management and controls that ensure smooth function of the operation.
Financial Management & Policies
- Ensure financial plans are in place and fully utilised for achievement of the MIA’s strategic goals and objectives and for operational health and sustainability.
The MIA Profile and Positioning and Relationships
- Ensure the MIA is publicly recognised, respected and valued as the preeminent migration professional association.
- Represent the MIA in its relationships with governments, State branches, members, employees and other external stakeholders.
Membership Standards
- Ensure members of the MIA are viewed by the public and stakeholders as highly skilled and ethical practitioners in the immigration advice profession.
- Establish, monitor and improve practices and ethical standards through policy, education and training.
Management Team & Leadership
- Ensure organisational culture is consistent with the MIA’s Values, Principles and Code of Ethics and Practice.
- Ensure that the management team has the support and systems needed to meet/exceed the challenges in their job descriptions and goals
EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES
Essential experience and skills:
- First-class leadership skills, with the desire to lead a membership association
- Excellent communication skills; verbal, written and interpersonal
- Demonstrated financial acumen and financial management expertise
- Experience of working closely with a Board or similar to lead/operational management expertise
- Highly skilled in staff management
- Ability to motivate and engage staff and volunteers
- Proven expertise and skills in representation, advocacy and managing relationships with all stakeholders of the organisation
- Established experience in developing and implementing strategy
- Successful business development expertise, including building business partnerships
- Goal orientated/focused, demonstrated ability to meet strategic goals
- Experience in building an organisation to meet strategic goals
- Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline (management, business or law) or equivalent
