New salary effective 29 June 2024
(HEO10) $141,610 - $150,927 per annum plus an employer contribution of 17% superannuation applies.

* Full-time, fixed-term position until 30 September 2028 (with potential of an extension)

An exciting opportunity exists for a highly organised, energetic professional to join the Australian Plant Phenomics Network (APPN) in a key leadership role.

The APPN is comprised of nine renowned research organisations that offer advanced phenotyping technologies and digital innovation to transform Australian plant and agricultural science.

The Chief Operating Officer (COO) provides high level advice and executive management support to the APPN CEO and Advisory Board to support decision making on policy and strategy. The COO has substantial managerial responsibility across budgets, resource allocation, risk management, strategy and future planning, commercialisation of APPN outputs, and partner engagement. Working in close collaboration with APPN Nodes, the COO ensures that contractual funding obligations are met and coordinates responses to requests from the Australian Government’s Department of Education and other APPN stakeholders.

To be successful you will need:

  • Substantial and demonstrated experience in financial and strategic management in an evolving service environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in development, implementation and evaluation of strategic frameworks, policies and procedures.
  • High-level written and oral communication skills, including for financial data, with a demonstrated capacity to research and deliver well written committee papers, minutes, reports, and proposals for an executive audience.
  • Experience in the supervision and performance management of staff, including the ability to manage complex or sensitive HR matters and coordinating with staff in multiple locations.
  • Aptitude for strategic thinking, translating strategies and priorities into goals, and leading change, ideally in a research setting.
  • Demonstrated experience in effective leadership of change to improve performance, establish a harmonious working environment and maintain an outcome-based focus.
