Chief Operations Officer

The West Daly Regional Council covers 14,000 square kilometres and is located about 300 to 420 kilometres south-west of Darwin. The area is mainly rural, with three Indigenous communities at Peppimenarti, Nganmarriyanga and Wadeye which are managed by West Daly Regional Council (Council).

The role of the Chief Operations Officer also fills the position of Deputy CEO and will see you leading service delivery into our communities.  You will oversee the Technical Services Manager, Council Operations Manager, Business Support Officer, Community Services Managers, Community Safety Patrol Officer and Homelands Officer.  With a total staff contingent of 70, we are looking for an experienced leader who thrives on staff development in a community facing environment.  Your team play a crucial role in the delivery of road, waste and infrastructure maintenance services to our community.
To be successful in this role, you will be an experienced executive from within the Local Government or Community Services space with an understanding of remote communities and what it takes to build sustainable relationships with key community and stakeholders including all levels of government.  Your track record of respecting and working in partnership with community will be critical to your success in this position.
You will bring a breadth of leadership skills and experiences that position you to lead and support staff in a measured and considered way that encourages individuals and allows them to shine.

The Chief Operations Officer role is based in Wadeye where you will be provided with accommodation and utilities.  It is expected that you will spend time in both the Wadeye office which allows you to manage services delivery into our communities at Nganmarriyanga and Peppimenarti and also our Darwin office.
