The Role
We are currently seeking a Chief Technical Principal – Engineering Geology in our Geotechnics & Tunnelling business, this role is a global role and can be based our offices around the world (Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, UK, South East Asia or Middle East).
The right Engineering Geologist will need to apply their technical expertise to generate innovative, economical, and practical solutions that will strengthen the business through project implementation and delivery, research and development and business development.
With a track record of achievement in a similar role, you will have gained your experience in an engineering design consultancy and have a passion for building trusted relationships to drive positive change and win new work. You will be a technical authority in Geology and spearhead major project deliver across infrastructure works in Transport, Water & Dams and Energy.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Applying project management principles in carrying out assigned tasks and accomplish project deliverables to the required standard and in a timely manner
- Providing technical risk (and opportunity) governance to both proposals and projects to achieve reliable project performance in terms of sophistication, timeliness and quality (e.g. as Proposal/Project Director)
- Supporting regional management to provide technical leadership to employees to ensure cohesion, optimal performance, resourcing, retention and professional development of technical staff
- Supporting the Region to achieve sustainable growth of the business through targeted client relationship management (CRM) and business development (BD) activity
- Build SMEC's brand globally & regionally as a leading consultant with a strong reputation for innovation, technical excellence, quality and project delivery
About You
- Master’s degree in Engineering (Geology, Geotechnical, Civil)
- Chartered Engineer
- At least 20+ years’ professional industry experience, ideally on projects within Dams, Hydro, Tunnelling and Infrastructure
- Business planning, budgeting and commercial acumen
- Client focus to produce quality outcomes within an environment with competing demands and tight deadlines
- Vision, drive and focus to oversee the delivery of winning proposals
- High level consulting and client management skills
- Proven high level project management skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively within a diverse and multi-disciplinary environment
- Skilled in managing a co-operative and flexible work style to work in a team environment
- Ability to source and apply new knowledge including industry information and key talent
- Highly skilled in managing competing priorities and working under pressure
