Child And Maternal Health Nurse

The role:
As a Child and Maternal Health Nurse Home Visitor, your role is to provide a strengths-based home visiting and education service to women pregnant with an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander baby and their families. The role, in partnership with the Community Family Partnership Worker is to foster culturally safe relationships with women pregnant with an Aboriginal and /or Torres Strait Islander baby and their families and promote high level engagement and successful program outcomes.

We are looking for a Registered Nurse with a minimum of 3 years of clinical experience, with a background in maternal and child health. Previous experience working in rural and remote Indigenous communities is a must.

Areas of responsibility:
· Builds and maintains relationships based on trust, support and growth with eligible women, their families, team colleagues and community members.
· Provides culturally safe home visits to women who are eligible for the WWFPP and their families.
· Works with WWFPP team members to enhance the team's capacity to remain culturally safe in all aspects of WWFPP work.
· Actively participates in Program education and acquires the knowledge and skills to implement the Program successfully and keeps up to date with information on a local, state or national level that may impact delivery of Program content.
· Delivers content at home visits in a way that maintains alignment with the client centred principles including modelling therapeutic relationships, change theory, self-efficacy, client centred, and strength based and solution focused approaches.
· Home visits conduced in accordance with the standard schedule:
- Four once weekly visits upon initial enrolment prenatally, then every other week until delivery
- Six weekly visits after infant birth, followed by visits every other week until baby is 21 months of age.
- Monthly visits from 21 through to 24 months.
- Carries a case load of up to 25 clients.

Wurli-Wurlinjang Health Service is located in Katherine. Katherine is a modern, thriving regional centre. The population of the region is just over 24,000 people, of which 60% identify as Indigenous and known as "Where the outback meets the tropics"
Located 314 km from Darwin and 1180 km from Alice Springs, the town is situated on the banks of the Katherine River.
The Katherine region also boasts magnificent Aboriginal rock art, Nitmiluk (Katherine Gorge) National Park, the Cutta Cutta Caves Nature Park and Elsey National Park.
Historically, Katherine has always been important. To the local Aborigines, it was the point where the traditional lands of the Dagoman, Jawoyn, and Wardaman met, and consequently, the river and the nearby gorge were popular meeting places.

Criteria:
To be considered for this role, you should possess:
· Bachelor of Nursing / Midwifery
· AHPRA registration with no limitations
· Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience in Child and Maternal Health (Child Health Nurse)
· Experience working in rural and remote / Indigenous communities
· Willing to obtain National Police Check & Working with Children's Check
· Willing to obtain NT driver's license
