Job description

Jarrah House is a small healthcare facility (alcohol and other drug rehabilitation) with mums and children living on-site. We are looking for experienced Childcare Workers to join us. Our clients bring children from newborn to 5 years of age to stay with them for the 10-week treatment program. Children are cared for during the day in Jarjums, the on-site childcare space, which operates 7 days per week, while mothers attend their daytime activities.

The Childcare Worker makes an important contribution to health support for children, who often come from challenging social circumstances, and supports the redevelopment of the mother-child relationship. Two Childcare Workers provide care for up to 6 children and are responsible for supervising, educating, and supporting them from 8:45am to 4:45pm each day. You will help to create an inclusive, fun, safe, healthy, productive and effective learning and development environment for children in our Childcare space called ‘Jarjums’ (the Bundjalung word for young person).

THE ROLE:

The Jarrah House staff includes counsellors, nurses, social workers, Childcare Workers and administrative staff. We provide holistic care and support to alcohol and other drug consumers in a peaceful residential setting on country which has long been known as a place of healing. In the Childcare Worker role you will create supportive relationships with children and their mothers, keep an accurate and complete record of each child’s progress, routines and interests in accordance with the Early Years Learning Framework and developmental milestones and participate in the requirements of a mandatory reporter.

Childcare Workers are on duty 8:45am to 4:45pm each day. Essential requirements:

• Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care or equivalent experience

• The right to work in Australia

• Criminal Record Check clear

• Working with Children Check clear

• Evidence of relevant vaccinations, including COVID-19, and the ability to do the physical work of the job

• Identify as a woman

• (If Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander) evidence of Aboriginality
