How this position will Make the Difference to City of Melbourne

Join us as the City Sensing Lead, where you'll be at the forefront of steering the evolution of the use of IOT, sensors and derived data and insights to support a leading intuitive city. Your role will centre on business partnerships, maturing the management of sensing and sensors to enhance the city experience through technology and data - driven solutions.

In this role you will be leading a team of two direct reports and your primary objective will be driving the successful delivery of Sensing @ COM, a significant strategic program for The City of Melbourne.

Our ideal candidate possesses extensive experience in delivery of digital urban infrastructure projects and driving the adoption and usage of digital and data solutions for informed decision making.

Effective communication skills and thought leadership are essential, as you will deliver presentations to executive leadership and external stakeholders encouraging collaboration in our dynamic work environment. This role specifically focusses on overseeing and coordinating the business partnering, planning, and delivery of the council's sensor program of work and derived data and insights.

What you will bring

You will bring

  • Appropriate tertiary qualification and/or significant experience such as social science, economics, mathematics, statistics, technology.
  • Extensive experience in program management using agile and PMBOK methodologies, including delivery and management of high value, complex projects in a large, diverse organisation with multiple stakeholders and competing priorities.
  • A deep knowledge and proven expertise in at least two of the following areas: urban technologies, digital urban infrastructure, IoT, hardware development, GIS, computer engineering, data science, engineering, planning, urban design.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading a team to achieve high performance outcomes with coaching skills to develop team capabilities, team cohesion and the ability to effectively manage conflict and under performance.
  • Demonstrated understanding of key urban technology architecture components including connectivity, security, sensors and Internet of Things.
  • Understanding of human-centred design, design-led innovation and change management.
  • Experience with IoT or sensor technology in particular the capture, processing and publishing of data
  • Data analysis and interpretation experience including experience with the tooling and techniques such as Power BI, Tableau, R, Esri, etc.
