To assist in the management of infrastructure, in particular, drainage and road works our client is requiring a
Civil Designer
to work on a temporary basis, working a minimum of 76 hours per fortnight. This role pays $56 per hour (including the casual loading). The assignment will be approximately 6 months with an immediate start.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Use computer aid to prepare detailed engineering designs and drawing of road works, drainage and other municipal projects
- Prepare quantities and estimate for projects using predetermined rates
- Provide technical advice to internal and external customers in relation to the provision of drafting and design services
- Assist the Coordinator Design in the provision of software support in the Infrastructure Services Division with regards to installing, customizing and updating of civil and survey packages and provide advice and support to technical staff as required
- Provide back up and support to other Departmental team members as required
- Prepare reports for Council and relevant Committees and forums and attend meetings as required
- Receive public and general enquiries, complaints and correspondence related to technical issues, taking appropriate action in line with established policies and practices and with the aim of maintaining a strong customer focused service
- Assist the Coordinator Design with special projects, preparation of reports and background research as required
Requirements:
Essential
- Possession of an Advanced Diploma with substantial design experience, or Degree in Civil Engineering or recognized equivalent
- Previous relevant design experience preferably in municipal works and in particular, drainage and road works
- Comprehensive knowledge of municipal and civil design and drafting standards
- Extensive experience in the use of computer aided design and drafting packages, in particular: AutoCAD, Civil 3D or Civil Site Design (formerly Advance Road Design), as well as other office based software programs (i.e. Microsoft Office)
- Well developed interpersonal and conflict resolution skills with the ability to communicate with a wide range of people and groups
- The ability to research and write reports
- Ability to interpret and apply Policies, Legislation, Regulations and Standards
- Good decision making and problem solving skills
- Ability to work effectively, under minimal supervision, as well as part of a team
- Proven organizational and administrative skills with the ability to apply attention to detail and effectively prioritize work and coordinate priorities to meet deadlines and achieve outcomes
- Ability to acquire the appropriate legislative endorsements e.g. Construction Induction – Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction Industry (White Card) in combination with a good understanding of the Work Health and Safety requirements relevant to this position
- Possession of vehicle
- Possession of, or the ability to acquire, a satisfactory National Police Clearance Certificate (dated within the last twelve months)
- Previous exposure to project management, preferably within local government
- Possession of Road Safety Audit accreditation
