Civil Engineering Technician

Reports to Project Engineer / Manager. Tasks include :

• preparing sketches, charts, plans and designs for Civil Engineering works such as drainage, water supply, sewerage reticulation systems, roads and concrete structures.
• performing and directing fieldwork and laboratory testing
• interpreting work assignment instructions, applying appropriate procedures and selecting equipment
• collecting and analysing data, and carrying out computations
• estimating material costs and ensuring finished works are within specifications, regulations and contract provisions
• inspecting Civil Engineering works, and organising and supervising maintenance and repair work
• conducting field and laboratory tests of construction materials and soils, and collecting data for traffic survey
• Ensure efficient and effective resource allocation and utilisation; 
• Comply with project controls including, project scheduling as a service to construction, project scheduling as a tool to demonstrate delay and disruption, monitoring and reporting progress, cost and productivity, project cost forecasting and management of changes to the scope of work; 
• Maintain excellent working relationships with key client personnel
• Stay aware of company goals and strategies to ensure projects align with business priorities
• Interpretation of plans, specifications, and schedules ensuring all construction activities conform or exceed company, project specific and Australian standard requirements across the work scope
• Ensuring work undertaken complies with scope and meets operational and legislative requirements
• Carry out complete reviews of IFC drawings, specifications, and schedules issued to construction prior to instructing site engineers to incorporate information into the delivery of assigned work packages
• Identify any issues or concerns from the review of same documentation and raise with project engineer / manager 
• Completing all project specific daily, weekly and monthly reporting and programming with regard to client and Allstar requirements 
• Ensure effective management of change
• Investigate and close out safety, quality, and environmental issues that arise on site with support from relevant departments
• To lead by example at all times when carrying out day to day duties ensuring conformance to company procedures and standards at all times
• To advise all junior staff of individual improvements required to comply with company procedures and standards
• To support the development and understanding of technical and construction methodologies knowledge of all staff, particularly site
• Report all relevant client safety, QA ,environmental and construction issues to Senior Management
• Ensure, initiate and maintain a professional manner at all times with communicating both in writing and verbally with crews, Construction Management, Project Management, colleagues and client personnel.
• Support, manage, and implement new safety, quality, environmental, cost saving, construction related, behavioural or procedural initiatives introduced by project management.
• Identify quality, safety and environmental hazards that may arise during the fabrication, installation and use of temporary works, or during execution of construction methods and communicate these to affected project staff
