About the role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and highly motivated Asset Inspection Officer to join our Civil Works team on a full time basis.

As the Asset Inspection Officer, you will be responsible for undertaking proactive maintenance inspections on all civil infrastructure assets and harbour facilities to identify locations in need of maintenance works.

Based within our Civil Operations department and reporting to the Civil Works Coordinator, your main responsibilities will include:

  • Undertake proactive maintenance inspections of roads, footpaths, stairs, kerb and gutter, signs, wharves, ramps, jetties, waterfront stairs, street furniture including railings, etc. to identify asset conditions and/or maintenance requirements to update the defect register/maintenance system.
  • Provide efficient identification and elimination of any potential hazards to help ensure public safety.
  • Maintain comprehensive and accurate records of inspections and completed works.
  • Ensure prompt, accurate and courteous customer service.
  • Ensure that personal conduct is always ethical and consistent with EEO principles, Council’s Code of Conduct and corporate values.

You will also be on the on-call roster as the contact person for Council emergencies, for one week, every four weeks.  Emergency call-outs may include attending sites, making them safe and reporting back to Council after the event.  Award rates and allowances will apply to on-call work. 

About you

We are looking to engage someone that has a high level of attention to detail and proven ability to multi-task. You will be able to work both autonomously and as part of a dynamic team to meet deadlines.

Essential Criteria

  • Certificate IV in Civil Construction Operations or similar or equivalent relevant work experience.
  • C Class Drivers Licence.
  • General Construction Induction Card (White Card).
  • Holder of TfNSW Traffic Controller and TfNSW Implement Traffic Control Plans (or willing to obtain).
  • Sound written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated time management skills and attention to detail.
  • Competent in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, with the ability to complete electronic work records and associated reports.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proven ability to assess works to set standards.
  • Demonstrated experience in implementing and monitoring WHS, Risk Management and Environmental Protection principles.
  • Capable of working within the physical requirements in Section D of the Position Description.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to EEO & WHS principles.

Desirable Criteria

  • MR Drivers Licence.
  • Experience carrying out minor civil repairs to civil infrastructure as directed.
  • Experience in managing contractors within a civil construction environment with auditing procedures.
  • Experience in identifying risks in 2ndtiered civil assets infrastructure.
  • Local Government experience or similar.
