Job description

Location Profile

Balliang East Primary School is a rural school located on the Werribee plain about 15 km south of Bacchus Marsh. The township of Balliang East consists of a public hall and the school. The surrounding properties are generally small 12-15 acre blocks. There are also several large working farms in the area which are mainly crop and sheep farms.

The school was established in 1913. Currently we cater for children from Balliang East, Rowsley, Bacchus Marsh, Wyndham Vale, Manor Lakes, Werribee, Melton and Corio. Student enrolment figures have steadly increased. In 2024 we currently have 67 students. The success of the increase of enrolments can mainly be attributed to our Be PREPared Transition Program. Students are invited to attend 10 Prep transition sessions across Semester 2 which allows the students and their families to build a rapport with the staff and the school community and establish a sense of belonging before their school journey begins. Due to limited teaching space our aim is to keep enrolment figures manageable by keeping our total enrolments per year to around 80 students across P-6.

The staffing profile at Balliang East has remained fairly stable with new staff members joining the team whilst others have remained at the school providing experience and stability. The Principal has been at the school for 27 years; 10 years as a Classroom Teacher and 17 years as Principal Class. The current EFT of 11.50 is made up of the Principal, 8 teachers, 5 Integration Aides and a Business Manager.

All teaching staff are involved in fortnightly PLC meetings. We also hold weekly staff meetings which alternate morning and afternoon to allow the ES staff the opportunity to attend every 2nd meeting. We have an ICT committee which meets regularly and weekly planning meetings.

Balliang East Primary School is an active member of the Central Highlands Network (CHN) and the Moorabool Collegiate Group Network (MCG) The Principal attends regular meetings and is currently working with other schools to develop a Community of Practice, focusing on Respectful Relationships. The MCG holds an annual Teacher¿s Conference which provides Professional Development for staff across all MCG schools.
