South Australia’s most ‘wished for’ short stay accommodationOde to the Orchard is looking for a new Cleaner / Housekeeper!

After 5 years, our wonderful Cleaner / Housekeeper is retiring. So we are now looking for a happy, reliable and responsible person to clean and set up our property for each new guest’s arrival. It is a gorgeous place to come to work every week!

This is a long term role, so we are looking for people who can envisage themselves staying for multiple years.

Pride in your work, attention to detail, happy outlook and flexibility in your availability to work according to different guest stay lengths is a must.

Ode to the Orchard is a cosy, curated 1890s stone cottage with a rustic vibe on our 20 acre orchard overlooking the picturesque village of Lenswood in the Adelaide Hills. Approximately 30 minutes drive from the CBD. Check out Odetotheorchard.com.au.

We are hugely proud of our beautiful little cottage achieving over 500 5-star ratings on Airbnb over the past 5 years. It has been the face of a number of SA Tourism campaigns and was a Finalist in the ‘Best Nature Stay’ category in the 2023 Airbnb Host Awards.

 The role requires:

  • Long term availability and commitment to the role
  • Availability between 10am to 1.30pm after each guest checks out and this can fall on different days each week (across both weekdays and weekends)
  • Each turnover takes approx. 3 hours and there are typically 2-3 per week
  • For planning, we provide the booking calendar 3-4 weeks in advance, though some short-term bookings do happen on rare occasions (we require 24hrs notice from guests)
  • An easy, clear and comprehensive task list and house ‘set up’ manual is provided, as well as training in the first few weeks
  • $40 per hour, paid weekly 
  • Excellent English language skills are essential for communicating regularly with us mostly via text but also in person
  • The candidate must have their own ABN and invoice the owners weekly

About us:

We are a local family that own and operate the accommodation business. We are hands on in terms of the other aspects of the business (maintenance, grounds, Airbnb bookings, marketing etc) and will support this role as required.

About the role:

We are seeking a positive and energetic Cleaner / Housekeeper forlong term engagement, who takes pride in their work and has high standards and strong attention to detail for following the required house presentation.

The candidate needs to be available across both week days and weekends including public holidays (likely to be different days each week) to clean and set up the 2 bedroom cottage at the conclusion of each guest booking. Guests check out by 10am and the new guests check in at 2pm. Bookings are anywhere between one and five nights. So flexibility and availability are key to the smooth running of the business.

Housekeeping duties include:

  • Change beds and wash linen, towels and tea towels (washer and dryer on site), hang out washing
  • Wipe out fridge and oven, dust and wipe all surfaces
  • Top up bathroom and kitchen supplies (shampoo, soaps, toilet paper etc./ coffee pods, breakfast supplies, condiments etc.)
  • Clean and set fireplaces, restock wood and kindling
  • Check for cobwebs inside, clean windows
  • Clean bathroom and kitchen
  • Clean outdoor bath
  • Sweep and de-cobweb outdoor verandas and clean outdoor tables/chairs and outdoor couch 
  • Vacuum carpets and mop floors
  • Make a list of supplies to be restocked (inventory is kept onsite)

Skills and experience:

  • Must be very organised in terms of recording the bookings (from booking calendar supplied) and planning your availability accordingly
  • Self driven to achieve high standards of cleanliness and presentation
  • Happy outlook and good communication skills with the owners
  • No interaction with guests is required
  • Work autonomously with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrated ability to read instructions and apply the information to your work
  • Full training and support provided
  • Prior cleaning and short term property management advantageous but not essential
  • Must have own transport due to the country location (there is no public transport)

Looking for a start date in mid-late April to work with current house manager for a 1-2 week hand over period.
