What will you do

Reporting to the local Environment Team Lead, this role will develop the strategy to grow the Climate Science and Resilience Team in Australia. 

You will be responsible for linking the team up with our global teams and their own climate resilience offerings and marketing our combined offerings to your extensive network of government, industry and private sector partners.

You’ll demonstrate excellence in your knowledge and experience of one or more climate scenario analysis techniques, climate exposure assessment, and general Climate Science, including climate projections in Australia and relevant data sources from the IPCC, and the development of adaptation plans and strategies.

Your work will support our clients with their ambitions to improve their climate resilience as well as address their emerging mandatory climate and nature-related disclosure reporting requirements, which is one of the most significant changes in corporate and sustainability reporting in a decade.

The Climate and Resilience Technical Lead oversees and executes our growing portfolio of climate work.  With experience managing teams completing vulnerability assessments, climate adaptation alternatives, predictive modelling, resilience planning, ecologically focused restoration projects and design and implementation of a blend of grey and green infrastructure solutions for a diverse client-base including federal, state, and municipal governments. An understanding of weather, and risks associated with meteorological forecasting is a plus.

The desired candidate will be comfortable providing day-to-day technical and staff oversight and training as well as leading marketing and client relationship efforts and program growth.

Responsibilities:

Technical and Collaboration

  • Climate exposure assessment: Drawing on relevant climate projections data, develop advice on the potential impacts of a range of climate hazards for different locations, primarily in Australia. This could include using various tech platforms to deliver.
  • Adaptation strategies: Building on the results of climate risk assessments, develop climate risk treatment and adaption plans and strategies to build organisational resilience.
  • Climate disclosure gap analysis: Informed by recent developments in standards such as ISSB IFRS S2 internationally and ASRS in Australia, provide advice regarding the extent to which climate disclosure standards are being met for an organisation and identify suitable actions.
  •  Client Engagement: Interact with current and prospective clients to identify their requirements, offering customised solutions that showcase our expertise.
  • Client Capacity Building: Work closely with clients for data gathering and business model understanding, provide tailored solutions.
  • Networking and Partnerships: Cultivate and sustain relationships with key industry stakeholders to enhance our influence and reach.
  • Proposal Development: Lead the creation of persuasive proposals and presentations that clearly communicate our services and the benefits.
  • Research and Innovation: Keep abreast of the latest trends, regulations, and innovations in climate risk assessment and management, including ISSB and ASRS disclosure reporting.
  • Team Collaboration: Engage actively with our multidisciplinary team to develop integrated and comprehensive solution.
  • Track, monitor, and manage program/project progress, financials, schedules, and deliverables.

What you bring
  • A minimum of 10 years of consulting experience (or transferable experience/ skills) conducting resilience and climate adaptation services.
  • Demonstrated client management and project management experience (strong Australian experience).
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with colleagues and clients.
  • Bandwidth to engage with multiple stakeholders to assess and perform vulnerability assessments and Resilience planning actions.
  • Ability to manage projects to scope/schedule/budget and see through to completion.

Education/Professional Credentials:

  • BS, MS, or PhD in Climate Science or environmental sciences, urban planning, ecological.
  • Certifications preferred (IAP2 Stakeholder Engagement Accreditation/ ESG Certification).
