Salary:  $188,151 - $254,198 (Plus 11.5% Super and allowances)

Mental Health, Justice Health and Alcohol and Drug Services (MHJHADS), a Division of CHS, provides a range of Health Services to youth and adults directly and through partnerships with community organisations. The services provided range from prevention and treatment through to recovery and maintenance. MHJHADS services are provided in inpatient and outpatient settings, community health centres, justice health facilities and other community settings by mobile teams. MHJHADS aims to be socially inclusive and operate within a recovery-focussed and/or harm minimisation approach. Consumer and carer participation is encouraged in all aspects of service planning and delivery and the Division works in partnership with consumers, carers, and a range of Government and non-government service providers to ensure best possible outcomes for clients.

The Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) section of MHJHADS provides specialist inpatient and community based Mental Health assessment and treatment services for children and Adolescents experiencing moderate to severe mental illness/disorder with significant functional impairment, associated complex needs and risk. CAMHS also governs several specialist MHJHADS services.

The Clinical Director Position is 0.5FTE. The position holder will have the opportunity and be encouraged to work further clinical FTE with CAMHS.

Strong research links are maintained with the ANU, University of Canberra and the Australian Catholic University. All specialties are represented with the exception of organ transplantation. The hospital has well developed post graduate teaching programs. A fully equipped medical library is available on site with a large collection of hard copy and on line journals and textbooks.

The preferred candidate maybe considered for a conjoint position in ANU at an academic level commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience.  The academic position will be held for the duration of the Canberra Health Services employment and will be subject to regular performance reviews.  No remuneration is attached to the University position. The employee will be responsible to the University on academic matters and to The Canberra Hospital & Health Services / Canberra Health Services for clinical/ research matters.

Duties:

1.

In partnership with the MHJHADS Executive team, CAMHS Operational Director and Senior Managers and other senior medical, nursing and allied health staff provide strategic direction, clinical governance, leadership, planning and evaluation for the program - including service development, protocols for admission/discharge, expert clinical opinion and effective clinical risk management particularly in complex and sensitive cases.

2.

Support the Operational Director in operational matters including financial management, work health and safety matters, preparation of policies and procedures, complaint resolution, ministerial and coronial responses.

3.

In collaboration with the DOCS, ensure timely recruitment of medical staff and effective line management of program medical staff including rostering, leave planning and performance management, ensuring medical staffing is kept within budget. 

4.

Provide clinical services to clients and participate in the clinic and on-call rosters for the Division/program; inclusive of the provision of ECT. 

5.

Provide teaching and supervision to medical students, psychiatry registrars and other staff as needed. 

6.

Initiate service evaluation and research using a sound understanding of applications of Information Technology particularly regarding capturing and interpreting of relevant data.

7.

Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.
