The organisation

When people talk about the Flying Doctor, thoughts generally turn to red-bellied planes undertaking rescue missions in the Outback. However, the current Victorian story is one that reflects today's challenges for people living in remote and rural communities across the state. While we do still transport people by air and by road, this work is complemented by a range of primary health services that address the most common issues people living in country Victoria face when accessing health care.

The business unit:

RFDS Victoria's Primary Health Care team works in partnership with community health organisations across Victoria to deliver impactful services and improve the health and wellbeing of our rural communities. We believe in creating opportunities so that all Victorians have the choice to access the essential health care services they deserve.

The position:

Working in the Primary Health Care business unit, the Clinical Governance Lead will be responsible for planning, implementing and managing the RFDS Primary Health Care Clinical Governance systems. The vision for this role is to see that rural and remote Victorians can rely on the safety and quality of RFDS Victoria Primary Health Care services.

The Clinical Governance Lead has six major accountabilities:

Clinical Governance -

  • Developing, implementing and overseeing systems and processes for safe, high-quality care using frameworks for ISO 9001 and NSQPCH standards
  • Setting priorities for improvement plans based upon analysis of service outcomes & metrics

Partnering with Consumers -

  • Working across Primary Health to ensure our systems are designed with the consumer in mind so that the consumer, their families or carers are partners in care
  • Overseeing Consumer Led service design and integrating pace-based solutions to improve service delivery and sustainability

Clinical Safety -

  • Establishing systems to monitor and evaluate infection risks within primary care settings, including maintenance of safe, hygienic work environments
  • Using knowledge of infection prevention and control to ensure systems are in place to prevent control infection

Work models and Workforce development -

  • Working with service leads to ensure staff are appropriately credentialed and understand their scope of practice
  • Assisting with development of staff onboarding procedures, using learnings from other areas of Primary Health and across the organisation

Service Monitoring -

  • Developing and monitoring systems to manage clinical risk and understanding service metrics

Research -

  • Participating in publications and conferences deemed relevant
  • Bringing an academic voice to models of care at RFDS

Knowledge, skills and qualities required:

  • Relevant clinical qualifications and registration (desirable)
  • Experience leading Clinical Governance in accredited health service environment (NSQHS or NSQPCHS)
  • Demonstrable knowledge of developing clinical audit programs and clinical monitoring processes/systems
  • Proven capability of working across multidisciplinary teams in different geographical locations
  • Experience in Identifying, influencing and leading change initiatives
  • Competency in data analysis and report preparation

Mandatory requirements:

In line with RFDS Victoria's mandatory policies, all employees are required to undergo a National Police Clearance, hold a Working with Children Check and have 3 * Covid vaccinations and annual influenza vaccination. This position may be subject to further vaccination requirements.
