Fixed term full time, day worker position working 76 hours per fortnight for a period of 3 years

Who Are We Looking For?

We are seeking a motivated and experienced Clinical LeadObstetrics and Gynaecology, to work for the Department of Health (DoH) in the North West region. This role will require the successful applicant to work with the Clinical Director – Women’s and Children’s and assist with providing a high level of strategic leadership and direction, ensuring resources are efficiently utilised, services are effectively integrated within the hospital/service and the highest standards of service delivery are achieved in accordance with hospital/service policy directions, service standards and financial targets. In addition, the Clinical Lead will provide specialist obstetric and gynaecological medical care to patients attending the North West Regional Hospital (NWRH), Burnie and Mersey Community Hospital (MCH), Latrobe, in addition to outreach services across the broader North West region. The split of leadership versus clinical duties is negotiable.

The maternity unit, housing the birthing suite and all inpatient maternity patients for the region, is located at North West Private Hospital (NWPH) in Burnie, with antenatal and postnatal services offered at both the NWRH and MCH. There are approximately 1000 births annually and staffing includes experienced midwives. High risk births are managed in conjunction with the Launceston General Hospital (LGH) and Royal Hobart Hospital (RHH) supported by the local endocrinology and diabetic teams. The unit is supported by a Level 4 Neonatal Unit and an 8 bed Level 4 Intensive Care Unit. The outreach services are located at picturesque regional centres which include the West Coast District Hospital, Smithton District Hospital and King Island District Hospital and Health Centre.

The right applicants will play a key role in developing health care at both patient and system levels.

The DoH offers a comprehensive undergraduate and graduate clinical training program, with close ties to the University of Tasmania through the Rural Clinical School, located at both Burnie and Latrobe.  As such, you will be responsible for providing leadership and help with the delivery of the Undergraduate Obstetrics and education program. There are also strong links with the University of Tasmania’s Rural Clinical School and a conjoint appointment is available. 

Opportunities to evolve and to include private practice with significant unmet demand in this area is also available.

Salary: 

You will have access to salary package a range of benefits including living expenses up to $9,010 + $2,650 in meal entertainment each FBT year + other benefits if eligible. 

The remuneration package ranges from $450,000 at Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1 to, in excess of, $600,000 at Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 11, with further salary increments available, excluding superannuation. In addition, access to generous accommodation and relocation costs.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Medical Practitioners Agreement 2022

Eligibility:

Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria:

  1. Specialist or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia in a relevant specialty 
  2. Current Working with Children Registration
