RCH has cared for the children and young people of Victoria for more than 150 years since it was founded in 1870. A full range of paediatrics and adolescent health services are provided plus tertiary and quaternary care for the most critically ill and medically complex patients in Victoria, Tasmania, southern NSW and other states around Australia and overseas. Annually, the RCH has 300,000+ Specialist Clinic appointments, 90,000+ Emergency Department presentations and 20,000 elective surgeries.

The Role:

Part Time Fixed Term secondment backfill position until January. 2027, 60.80 hours per fortnight within the Neurodevelopment & Disability (NDD) Department. The job would be open to job sharing.

The function of this role is to provide clinical leadership in, and promote excellent care for children with Developmental Disabilities, as part of the Neurodevelopment & Disability team at RCH. The primary role is to work in partnership with all service providers and families to ensure responsive and flexible delivery of acute and long term healthcare needs for children with developmental disability. A key focus of this role is liaising with schools to support children cared for by NDD to attend school. This includes education, healthcare advice and documentation to support school staff including educators and school based healthcare providers. This role also includes the provision of advice to RCH and community health care providers, delivery of professional and parent education, and active participation in developmental disability research and audit activities

Essential:

  • Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) administered through the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  • Relevant post graduate qualification, or working towards these. Masters degree or above is desirable.
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing personal and professional development, as evidenced in a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) record/Professional Practice Portfolio (PPP)
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a multidisciplinary team
  • Extensive paediatric nursing experience
  • Experience in working with Children with Disabilities

Desirable:

  • Computer Literacy
  • Familiarity with outpatient care

Other Requirements:

  • Employees are required to undertake a National Criminal Record Check and a Working with Children Check prior to commencing employment.
  • Employees are required to maintain a valid Working with Children's Check throughout their employment.
  • A current, full drivers licence for the State of Victoria which is appropriate for the type of vehicle being driven, and comply with any restrictions on their licence (e.g. wearing glasses) while undertaking hospital duties (If applicable)
  • Employees are required to provide and maintain required immunisations and serology results as part of their employment
