About the opportunity


Liverpool Hospital is currently in search of a Clinical Nurse Specialist to join its dedicated team focusing on Diabetes Paediatric Management.

This role requires autonomy in decision-making and the application of professional knowledge to provide intricate care requiring advanced clinical skills. The successful candidate will navigate complex scenarios with adept judgment, ensuring optimal care pathways for patients with Diabetes.

Effective communication is at the heart of this role, as the CNS will engage with patients, their families or carers, and the multidisciplinary healthcare team in a person-centered manner. By fostering open communication, they will facilitate the provision of safe, compassionate, and high-quality care tailored to individual needs.

The Clinical Nurse Specialist will adeptly manage time to meet the diverse needs of patients and their families or carers. With competing priorities and agendas, the CNS will consistently prioritise patient-centered care, upholding the core values of Liverpool Hospital.

The duties specific to Diabetes Paediatric Management encompasses a range of nursing interventions including medication management, symptom assessment, patient education, and support.

The specialist will play a pivotal role in coordinating care plans, advocating for patients, and collaborating closely with paediatricians and other healthcare professionals to optimise treatment outcomes and enhance patients' quality of life.

By assuming personal responsibility for patient-centric care delivery, the Clinical Nurse Specialist will contribute significantly to Liverpool Hospital's commitment to excellence in healthcare provision.


Where you'll be working

Liverpool Hospital, founded in 1813, is the major health service for south-western Sydney, providing services to the local government area of Liverpool City Council as well as district services to residents and visitors in the area. It also provides a range of state-wide services in areas such as critical care and trauma, neonatal intensive care and brain injury rehabilitation.

The Hospital provides a health service of international standing, with 23 operating theatres, capacity for 877 beds, diagnostic and imaging services, emergency and trauma care, maternity, paediatric, cancer care, mental health, ambulatory care, allied health and medical and surgical services from birth to aged care.

Liverpool Hospital is currently undergoing a major redevelopment. The $790 million Liverpool Health and Academic Precinct (LHAP) project will provide enhanced facilities and an increased capacity to meet future significant population growth for South Western Sydney.

Liverpool Hospital is a principal referral and teaching Hospital of the University of NSW and the Western Sydney University and also welcome students from over 20 universities and colleges.

Located in the heart of Liverpool City, the hospital is close to public transport, shopping centres and eateries.

How to Apply

To be considered for this position, please ensure you address the selection criteria as thoroughly as possible. 

  1. Current Authority to Practice as a Registered Nurse with Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA) with 3 years relevant full time equivalent post registration experience and approved post graduate nursing/midwifery qualifications in a field relevant to the specialty field, or such other qualification, or experience deemed appropriate by the organisation
  2. Demonstrated experience and skills in providing complex care in the relevant field
  3. Demonstrated ability to provide safe compassionate quality care that is culturally responsive
  4. Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and engage with patients/consumers, carers and the multidisciplinary health care team to identify and ensure responsiveness of care needs
  5. Demonstrated capacity to interact with others in a personable and professional manner and personally resolve conflicts when they arise
  6. Demonstrated evidence of the use of critical thinking as it relates to the delivery of advanced evidenced based nursing care
  7. Demonstrated understanding and participation in risk management, work health and safety and quality improvement in the workplace
