Overview:
Employees classified at this level provide clinical expertise for DASSA’s response to alcohol and other drug health issues, with an emphasis on secondary and tertiary prevention, assessment, management, referral and rehabilitation of patients in hospital and in community outpatient settings.
The service includes assessment, counselling, psychosocial interventions, medication assisted treatment, case management and referral of people with drug and alcohol related problems and their families, and the provision of information, training, clinical consultation, advice and support to other service providers.
The Clinical Practice Consultant also undertakes consultation liaison responsibilities by:
- undertaking assessment of hospital patients in response to requests by admitting teams
- recommending interventions and investigations, in management of patients [when occasion arises and within own scope of practice and level of expertise].
- using diagnostic tools to aid accurate assessment
- communicating treatment management plans to all relevant members of the health care team including health workers in the community and o collaborating with the health care team, facilitating the implementation of the treatment management plans.
Employees classified at this level are experts within their area and stream of practice and have a significant degree of autonomy and decision making.
Employees in this role accept accountability for their nursing/midwifery practice, the outcomes of nursing/midwifery practices for the specific patient/client group, the professional advice given, delegations of care made and for addressing inconsistencies between practice and policy.
- Job share, 1.2 FTE.
- This role involves travelling out to Peterborough hospital and various other sites for client visits around the Pt Pirie area.

Criminal History Screening Requirement
- A National Police Certificate (NPC) for employment involving no contact with vulnerable groups is required for this position (general employment)
- A DHS ‘Working With Children Check’ (WWCC) is required for this position
Immunisation Risk for this position is Category A (direct contact with blood or body substances)
SA Health Services are required to implement the Addressing vaccine preventable disease: Occupational assessment, screening and vaccination policy in the workplace.
Special Conditions
- Registered or eligible for registration as a Nurse by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and holds, or who is eligible to hold, a current practicing certificate.
- Current driver’s licence is essential and frequent intra state travel is a requirement of the role.
- The incumbent may be required to work from any site within the regional Local Health Network or Metropolitan area.
- Flexibility and some out-of-hours work may be required.
