Summary – about the role :

As a Theatre Nurse, you’ll play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and well-being of patients undergoing surgical procedures. Your expertise in pre-operative care, intra-operative support, and post-operative recovery will be essential in providing top-notch patient care.

Collaborating closely with surgeons, anaesthesiologists, and fellow health care professionals, you’ll contribute to creating a seamless and efficient surgical environment. If you’re a dedicated, compassionate, and adaptable individual with a background in nursing

As a Registered theatre nurse your responsibilities include:

  • Prepare patients for surgery by assessing their medical history, medications, and vital signs. Ensure that the patient is psychologically and physically prepared for the procedure.
  • Assist the surgical team by ensuring all necessary equipment and supplies are ready for the procedure. Monitor the patient’s condition during surgery, assisting with anaesthesia administration, and passing instruments to the surgeon as needed.
  • Maintain a sterile environment within the operating room by following strict infection control protocols. Ensure that surgical instruments, drapes, and gowns are properly sterilised and used.
  • Serve as a patient advocate by ensuring their safety, comfort, and dignity throughout the surgical process. Communicate with patients and their families, addressing their concerns and providing information.
  • Monitor patients as they recover from surgery, assessing their vital signs, pain levels, and overall well-being. Administer post-operative care, including wound care and medication administration.
  • Collaborate with surgeons, anaesthesiologists, surgical technicians, and other health care professionals to ensure efficient and effective surgical procedures. Maintain open communication, anticipate needs, and adapt to changing circumstances in the operating room.

What we require from you:

  • APHRA registration
  • Graduate qualification in Operating Theatre nursing
  • Or equivalent clinical experience in the field
  • Anaesthetics, DPU & recovery
  • Clinical Skills and experience relevant to acute nursing
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
  • Flexibility to work full time across a rotating 7-day roster.
  • Complete COVID Vaccinations & 2022 Flu Vaccination, Serology evidence of immunisation status
  • Bachelor’s Or Masters
  • Triage Certificate / ALS (desirable)
  • Current National Police Check & Working with Children’s Check
