Job description

Spirit Super is a national, profit-for-member, industry super fund managing approximately $28 billion in funds. The fund offers strong outcomes, award-winning service, product excellence and financial sustainability to members across Australia. We are focused on creating Australia’s most dynamic superannuation fund by bringing customised super solutions to our members across all locations and life stages. 

Spirit Super and CareSuper are pleased to announce that they have entered into a binding agreement to merge the two funds. This comes after an extensive due diligence process, with the merger expected to be completed in late 2024.

About the role.
Reporting to the Cloud Lead, the Cloud Specialist is responsible for maintaining high levels of business systems availability by proactive management and continual improvement of underlying public and private cloud infrastructure while managing risk to an acceptable level. The operational nature of this role will require flexibility in working hours, with regular out of hours work required, both scheduled and unscheduled.

  • Ensuring adherence to relevant industry and regulatory guidelines and the Spirit Super IT Security Policy
  • Maintaining high levels of business systems availability by proactive management of underlying infrastructure, including public cloud infrastructure (Azure and VMware Cloud), Server/VM administration and associated maintenance activities
  • Developing, maintaining, and testing Backup and IT Disaster Recovery plans to meet all business and regulatory requirements
  • Working with Solutions Architect to contribute to capacity planning and future cloud and infrastructure design
  • Acting as Level 3 Escalation point for support and mentoring junior engineers
  • Supporting and participating in the change management controls protecting the production environment, including change approvals, solution designs and technical documentation
  • Assisting the creation of reports relating to IT environment capacity and fitness
  • Building and maintaining effective relationships with relevant internal and external stakeholders to ensure Spirit Super requirements are met
  • Taking reasonable care for your own personal health and safety and the safety of others in the workplace (e.g. Spirit Super officers, visitors, contractors, and members of the public)
  • Demonstrating the Spirit Super Values
  • Ensuring activities comply with relevant statutory and regulatory requirements, legal demands, and professional and ethical standards
  • Providing support on projects as required
  • Undertaking any other tasks as directed by management.

Who are we looking for?
We want people with spirit! We are looking for:
  • Appropriate industry or tertiary qualifications
  • Suitable level of experience with public cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or VMware Cloud) including in-depth knowledge of at least one of these platforms
  • Strong knowledge and experience of infrastructure and associated technologies (compute, storage, networking, firewalls, and security services)
  • Highly developed analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to utilise reasoning and critical thinking whilst maintaining process discipline
  • Experience automating services with scripting such as Powershell and Terraform
  • Advanced knowledge and hands-on experience of the following:
    • Cloud Networking Technologies and concepts
    • Backup / Disaster Recovery concepts and technologies
    • Windows Server operating systems
    • Active Directory, Entra ID and associated services
    • Office 365
  • Judgement of appropriate risks and controls when implementing change, considering both security and business needs
  • Proven commitment to continuous attention to technical excellence and good design
  • Ability to deliver quality working solutions that are uncomplicated, secure, reliable, and fit for purpose.
