EMERGENCY CAREER MEDICAL OFFICER | NEW SOUTH WALES SOUTH COAST

Challis Recruitment is currently recruiting Emergency Medicine Career Medical Officers to join a well-known Health care in Regional New South Wales.

THE HOSPITAL

This 134-bed hospital opened in 2016 and boasts beautiful country side views which are aesthetically pleasing for any work environment. It offers an emergency department, medical and surgical inpatient beds, a Level 3 maternity service, Level 3 paediatric unit, a critical care unit with 24-hour registrar cover, 3 operating theatres including day surgery, with significant community-based services including renal dialysis services and outpatient cancer medicine services.  This hospital also offers an inpatient mental health unit and sub-acute rehabilitation unit. In September 2022 a state-of-the-art standalone medical simulation centre will open.

THE POSITION

The Emergency Medicine Career Medical Officer are directly responsible to the attending Emergency Consultant for day-to-day patient management, and ultimately to the Chief Medical Officer.  They will provide the day-to-day clinical management of patients under the care and direction of the Consultant Staff of the Department to ensure a high quality of patient care. They will undertake administrative duties for the Department under the direction of the Consultant Staff to ensure that the Department is run efficiently.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES, ACTIVITIES AND DUTIES

  • Initial interview, assessment and management of patients presenting to the Emergency Department for care
  • Provide adequate and appropriate assessment and emergency medical care
  • Select and initiate appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic procedures
  • Ensure effective referral and disposition of the patient after they leave the Emergency Department. This includes discharge letters and instructions and prescriptions as required
  • Liaise appropriately with in-patient teams for seamless transfer of care for patients requiring admission to the hospital
  • Review of patient progress as appropriate
  • Use teamwork and effective communication to deliver effective health care that includes patients and family members as appropriate as members of the team
  • Participate as a member a member of the multi-disciplinary team
  • Ensure accurate and relevant documentation exists
  • Participate in departmental activities including patient safety and quality management
  • Provide ethical decision making in the achievement of organisational goals
  • Actively participate in the departmental meetings, medial education program and morbidity and mortality meetings
  • Participate in 24-hour roster including days, afternoons, evenings and night shifts

TRAINING

  • Maintain and demonstrate regulated clinical skills and competencies by undertaking professional development and completing mandatory training as defined by the hospital
  • Undertake credentialing and review of scope of practice and work within these
  • Improve performance by seeking feedback, setting goals and participating in annual performance reviews
  • Support the development of others by acting as a resource to colleagues and participating in orientation and preceptoring of new employees and supervising students
  • Provision of appropriate supervision to less experienced clinical employees
  • Participate in committees and professional groups and disseminate relevant information to other health care professionals.

ESSENTIAL

  • Evidence of Medical Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  • Experience working as a single Practitioner in charge of hospital/emergency department for at least 12 months at the level of PGY 4 and above.
  • ACEM Certificate/Diploma or a FACCRM or FRACGP/FARGP qualification would be desirable.
  • Demonstrated procedural skills including intubation, resuscitation and invasive monitoring.
  • Demonstrated high level of communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and harmoniously as a team member.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuing education and professional development.
  • Commitment to participate in an equitable medical roster, including evenings, nights and weekend shifts.
  • A good understanding of the unique demands of rural / regional health will be highly regarded.
