Elphinstone Pty Ltd is a leading manufacturer of quality products for the global underground and surface mining industries.  In addition, Elphinstone provides manufacturing and engineering services in the defence, transport and utilities sectors. 

Elphinstone has more than 45 years of experience in manufacturing and currently employs more than 200 highly skilled people. 

The product range includes specialised underground mining support vehicles (including concrete agitators, delivery trucks, fuel and lube trucks and water cannons), graders, mine extraction devices (MED), and Haulmax extended haulage trucks.

This range of products combine practical design, the latest technology and quality manufacturing to ensure each machine is safe, reliable, productive, ergonomic, and easy to service, maintain and re-build.

In addition to the manufacturing of our underground support vehicles, we have a significant presence in the Defence manufacturing industry, and provide electrical harness solutions within a number of industrial sectors. 

Elphinstone is seeking to employ a CNC Machinist / Programmer to program and operate CNC milling machines in line with technical models and drawings, to match our customer & quality standards. 

About the Role

We currently have a role available within our Yellow Iron department based at our Wivenhoe/Burnie Tasmania site. The role is a hands-on operations role; however, the role will be the lead CNC Machinist, which will provide guidance, support and development for our machinist team. The role will report to our Fabrication Supervisor. 

Key tasks will include:

  • Offline programming CNC machines
  • Online programming verification for CNC machine
  • Machine setup and operation
  • Adjust machine tool paths and settings to optimize production while maintaining quality
  • Read and interpret drawings and technical information
  • Lead the machinist team

About You

We are looking for an individual who can work to timeframes efficiently and safely and take pride in their work. You will also demonstrate integrity, respect, teamwork and ownership. 

Desired Skills and Qualifications 

  • Relevant Trade or Engineering Qualification (Certificate 3 and above)
  • Significant experience in CNC machining and programming
  • A high level of attention to detail
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and work instructions.
  • Ability to work within target production timeframes
  • Contribute to Continuous Improvement initiatives
  • Good communication skills
  • Good computer skills with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office
