About the role


Are you a skilled CNC Machinist Turning / Lathe looking for an exciting opportunity to join a thriving, established family business. Key Responsibilities for the role

  • An understanding of jigging and tooling where you are a machinist by trade and not just a machine operator i.e. they do not only load jobs to run "operator" rather you have an understanding of how to do it where you can be given a job and work out the right chuck, tooling, set up, process of operation, understanding of machine code, feeds, speeds etc. "machinist"
  • You would have a good grasp on utilising measuring equipment to verify your work and confirm tolerance i.e. micrometres, dial gauge etc.
  • Ability to understand and interpret Engineering drawings particularly relating to machining symbols, surface finishes and numeric & geometric tolerances.
  • Ability to read/understand general views and their driving dimensions.
  • Understanding of speeds, feeds and cut depths and their relationship to the operation. Ability to manipulate and change these with an understanding of how they impact surface finish, job efficiency and tool life.
  • Knowledge of tooling types and their application. Manual machining turning capabilities would be expected as a common pathway to CNC operation and essential in acquiring trade qualification.
  • Mechanical aptitude where you can understand what the part is and what is important in its application, where it is known. This also relates to an understanding of the machine and operation in ensuring good maintenance and care of the equipment/tooling they utilise and maintain.
  • It is not essential to have programming capabilities. The leading hand will generally handle CAM requirements but if you have some knowledge of this it would be an advantage.
  • Understand and manipulate G & M code locally at the machine.


Skills & experience

  • Possess the skills and knowledge to work independently to a high standard without extensive direction.
  • Equipment Experience: 2+ years machining experience in a manufacturing or repair environment operating manual lathes, milling machines, or CNC lathes/mills.
  • Health and Safety: Applies elementary concepts to manage and apply safe systems of work.
  • Excellent communication skills,
  • Pride in work and reputation with a respect for quality and a desire to impart that on others
  • Australian recognised trade qualifications and certificates
  • Proven skills and experience for the role
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
  • Industry knowledge and safe work practices / OH&S are essential
  • Able to work as a member of a team
