The Opportunity

Noosa Council is seeking a qualified, motivated, and high-achieving leader to join our team as Collections Librarian.

In this role you will oversee the best practice management and provision of library collection resources and related services to meet customer requirements and expectations. 

The role coordinates all aspects of collection development, including collections analysis and reporting, acquisitions, procurement - including vendor contracts and financial management - including the preparation of an annual budget and relevant targets.  This position is a professional and key member in our team, playing an integral role in contributing towards the strategic development of the library service.

About You

To excel in this full-time role, you will be:

  • A proactive leader with substantial experience leading high-performing teams and managing contemporary library content and collections.
  • Passionate about delivering high quality collection content across a range of accessible formats that is responsive to community needs/expectations.
  • Highly skilled in developing and managing budgets, building positive vendor relationships, managing external service contracts and providing strategic analysis and reporting.
  • The holder of tertiary qualifications in library and information studies, cultural services or other related discipline.

The position's focus will be:

  • Coordinate the delivery of a range of collection activities including the acquisition, maintenance, assessment and deletion of physical and digital resources; interlibrary lending; maintenance of library management system data; provision of reader advisory, collections promotion, and information literacy resources and the approval of supplier payments. 
  • Support the Young People’s Librarian in managing collections relating to young people by liaising on financial allocation, and provisioning collection assessment and reporting activities. 
  • Develop, implement and review collections services, programs, policies and procedures maintaining a focus on delivering outstanding customer service, meeting community needs and reflecting contemporary library trends. 
  • Lead the collections team by providing oversight, support and guidance to team members to create a positive work culture. 
  • Implement and maintain a cycle of continuous improvement through regular liaison with suppliers and sector professionals and by investigating new products, services and resources with the potential to enhance services.
  • Ensure the sound financial administration and management of the collections budget, through a judicious combination of acquisitions streams that may include standing order plans, mediated profiling, annual subscriptions, patron-driven acquisition and staff selections, and through regular monitoring of expenditure.
  • Develop an annual build-from-base Collections budget that meets the conditions of the Public Library Grant and allocates funds across age and format categories to deliver cost effective resources tailored to the Noosa community demographic.
  • Develop and nurture positive partnerships and relationships with relevant stakeholders including suppliers and external libraries and agencies.
  • Ensure the library service meets all obligations under contracts managed by the Collections team including eResource licensing agreements and commercial in confidence arrangements.
  • Support the ongoing development of the library management system database to ensure the accuracy and effective resource discoverability for the broader community and across the sector.
  • Effectively manage library service projects ensuring a quality outcome within required timeframes and budgets.
  • Provide input into the development and implementation of the Library Service’s strategic and operational plans and other strategic planning for the whole branch by:
    • representing the interests and issues of the community and identifying gaps in Council’s community service provision through the delivery of library services, resources and facilities;
    • encouraging and supporting the development and implementation of new and innovative projects, programs, and services responsive to current and emerging community needs; and
    • contributing to the provision of reports and recommendations for Council’s consideration on matters associated with the development of policy and strategies relating to the Community Services Department.
