To continue as one of the most adaptive, effective and advanced police forces in the world, the AFP is seeking a suitably qualified professional for the role of Commander (SES Band 1). 

The role

The AFP is seeking to create a merit pool to fill vacancies at the Commander level now and into the future.

As a Commander you will be responsible for aligning organisational capability and capacity to ensure operational outcomes are maximised through harnessing technology and specialist resources; and identifying interdependencies and future needs.

Other key responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the broader senior leadership group to develop and implement strategies that align organisational capability and capacity to AFP Strategic priorities;
  • Deliver operational results aligned to organisational priorities, balancing resources to foster flexibility while supporting the development and wellbeing of our people;
  • Champion and lead innovation and continuous improvement;
  • Proactively develop productive working relationships with a diverse range of external stakeholders to understand and influence strategic law enforcement and national security drivers and frameworks;
  • Drive and embed leadership succession, performance, and development strategies to proactively develop people at all levels;
  • Model the AFP Leadership behaviours and support and drive a healthy and safe workplace culture through everyday behaviours that epitomise high calibre character, courage and commitment to excellence; and
  • Strongly contribute to development and application of financial, workforce and capability strategies to support overall AFP performance.
